MBTI Type: INFP

His sense of right and wrong motivates everything he does. Will is able to connect to and understand the robot on a fundamental, unspoken level. He tends to view the world through his own subjective judgments, ranging between tenderness and harsh criticisms – but he never tries to enforce his views on anyone else or alter their thinking beyond sharing his own experiences; he values these most of all, and finds ways to self-reference a great deal. He spends a lot of time alone, full of self-doubt, but also needs to process his grief separately from others. His tender-hearted nature overrules his sense of logic – such as when he tells the robot never to hurt another living creature, then realizes later it means the robot cannot self-defend from attack. Will tends to act on his feelings, and sometimes has factual references to share, but trusts his gut instincts more than anything (inferior Te). He changes his mind frequently, first seeing the robot as an enemy, then a friend, then an enemy. Will is an optimistic idealist, who believes “anyone can change” and tries to convince others of that, as pertains to his robot friend, but can also be persuaded to see the opposite idea of things. He feared the testing for the space program due to his low sensory awareness, and is correct in his intuitive understanding that “I don’t belong here.” Will waffles between feeling confident in this new world and apprehension about the unknown – especially if it involves physical contact. He tends to self-reference and trust his own personal, subjective experiences (Fi/Si loop, with reference to the robot) more than what others tell him. He mistakenly believes that having changed one robot into a protector, he can do the same with others — and admits that he allowed his own previous success doing that to blind him.

Enneagram: 9w1 so/sp

Will is idealistic and wants to believe the best of everyone and everything. He truly believes his robot has changed, but is so used to reflecting the emotions of those around him (merging) that he can be talked into abandoning his robot when others fear he is a danger and threat to the settlement and their family. He uses his almost supernatural calm to guide the robot into being a good, compassionate being willing to protect everyone. He’s sensitive to conflict and dislikes it. Under stress, Will falls into 6 disintegration — over-relying on other people, being anxious and fearful of everything, and sometimes freezing up under pressure. His 1 wing is principled and wants to do the right thing. He tries to teach the robot his values (no hurting people ever) and judges the robot’s former behaviors as “bad” (“You have to be bad again and protect yourself!”).
