Didi MBTI & Enneagram | A Man on the Inside

ISFJ 9w1 Characters

Dominant Introverted Sensing – a strong emphasis on memories holding personal significance, meticulous, and detailed: Didi has worked the same job for quite a long time, and feels mostly irritated that she has to go through so much red tape to fill simple demands. (If they need salt shakers, why does she have to fill out 12 pages worth of forms?) She knows intimately each person in her rest home, is attentive to the details of their lives, and goes out of her way to make them feel at home. But she also is easily overwhelmed with too much stimulation and will go into her office, shut the door and close the window blinds, put on her headphones, and lay under her desk to listen to the waves. Charles’ behavior strikes her as weird, because it does not make any sense and is inconsistent, so she knows he is up to something, but she can’t put her finger on what that might be.

Auxiliary Extroverted Feeling – ease of emotional expression and shaping their actions around how their decisions affect others: She is warm and pleasant, always knowing what others need and catering to it, even when it means leaving her coffee undrunk in the microwave yet again to calm someone down, broker peace between them and someone else, or head off a disaster. When she wants to find out more about Charles, she calls in her staff and asks all of them to keep an eye on him and report anything unusual to her. She doesn’t like to think ill of people, and wants them all to get along, so she patiently explains to them why they can’t just punch people in the face, or why this man thinks he’s married to that woman. Charles convinces her to return to her job by reminding her that she is good at this, and that the home will run more efficiently and with greater compassion if she’s actually there (“what will happen when the next lonely person gets here, and you’re not here to welcome them”)? She is quite good at sensing what others need on an emotional level, and ensuring they get it (sending people to welcome new residents).

Tertiary Introverted Thinking – desires to understand how systems and people work so they can better communicate or figure out how a hack that works: It makes no sense to her that Charles seemed to be getting along with everyone and enjoying his time there, only to abruptly want to move out with so little warning, so she needs to know WHY. She won’t rest until she asks questions to get to the bottom of things, including interrogating Julia and trying to expose her lies, based on her suspicion that something is amiss. She complains about management being inefficient (12 pages of paperwork just to get something they need, two months from now?) and finally just goes to Cosco and purchases the salt shakers, since that is faster.

Inferior Extroverted Intuition – curious about the future and in different possibilities, but skeptical of “unrealistic” ideas and allows others to lead the way there: Didi knows Charles is not on the level, and that “Emily” is suspicious, but has no guesses as to what the two of them are up to, and just tails them for a few days. She suspects insurance fraud or something of that nature, and thinks Charles is innocent or was suckered into it, because he’s a “nice old guy.” Rather than leap to conclusions, she follows up her suspicions with details, polling her coworkers, and asking for proof.

Enneagram: 9w1

Enneagram 9 – desires freedom from others’ influences, by going along with them and being tolerant, until it matters not to: Didi likes her job, and cares a great deal about people, but at the end of the day (and also in the middle of it)… she really just wants to be left alone to drink her coffee and chill out in her office. She often leaves parties in the middle of things and sneaks away to be alone. Having people upset irks her, so she tries to diffuse tension, convince people not to press charges, remind residents they can’t hit each other, and explain things so everyone understands the rules. If something goes wrong, she wants to know how they can fix it and keep everyone content and feeling safe, but she also tends to minimize problems. Two things get stolen on her watch, and she insists none of her staff or residents are responsible, and that it’s no big deal. When the “president” wants to up their security, Didi blows her off and tells her everything is safe enough / fine. She could have a big job in a corporate office, but that does not appeal to her because she likes where she is now and what she’s already doing. When a resident dies, rather than cry, she just wants to be alone.

1 wing brings in a desire for moral rightness and perfection: She dislikes being lied to, and wants Charles to leave immediately when she finds out the truth, because he took advantage of her and the residents. But her 9ish ability to see both sides soon bleeds over into her giving him a second chance and trying to mend his broken friendship with a resident. Didi hates inefficient policies and red tape, but also takes people to task who disobey her rules, cause trouble, or get into fights.
