Will Tippin MBTI & Enneagram | Alias

ENTP 7w6 Characters

Will became a reporter thinking he could change the world through the power of his ideas, his insights, and his journalistic pursuits. When his best friend’s boyfriend dies mysteriously in his bathroom, Will can’t let it go—he smells a cover-up, and starts pursuing leads with no thought to his personal health or safety until things get dangerous. He is a liability to Sidney in the first season, because his insights and intuition connect the dots and come a little too close to the truth about SD-6 for his own safety. He knows something is going on, he speculates accurately that the woman who says she was having an affair with Sydney’s fiancé is lying, and it all leads him back to SD-6. He is forever digging, asking questions, and not always being emotionally aware of his impact—some of his questions make Sydney uncomfortable and he doesn’t realize they are inappropriate until after he has upset her. He is somewhat blunt and awkward in breaking up with his girlfriend (who is his coworker—another naïve oversight on his part, since that makes their working relationship awkward when it ends); he does it so badly that after driving an hour to get him, after he’s been beaten up and left in the middle of nowhere, she dumps him on the side of the road miles from home! Will has to get to the bottom of everything and know WHY things happened, which makes him a good journalist. He’s also useful to the CIA in working for them because of his ability to pursue unusual leads, think creatively, and come up with interesting theories. His low Fe likes approval and for others to get along with him. He sometimes charms people for information, he is good at comforting Sydney when she needs a shoulder to cry on, and he eagerly shares all of his theories, thoughts, feelings, and ideas with her when he knows they are both on the same page. His inferior Si shows in his inattentiveness to details (he leaves that to his assistant, and he’s gotten in trouble for neglecting them in the past) and his sudden awareness of his own mortality when things get dangerous.

7s are assertive and go after what they want—and that’s exactly what Will does after Sydney tells him to leave her boyfriend’s murder alone. He ignores her and starts pursuing leads. He dates a coworker/intern who happens to work as his assistant, never intending for it to be ‘serious’ and immediately backs out of their sexual relationship when she wants to introduce him to her parents (this would imply commitment, and Will doesn’t really want to go there). He can be somewhat arrogant in how he assumes he can uncover the truth, and then everyone will forgive him for overstepping his boundaries. But his 6 wing kicks in… a lot. He becomes anxious whenever things get dangerous and backs off his case, tells his witnesses he’s not coming to see them anymore, and agrees to drop his story when he thinks that his life or the life of his loved ones and friends will be in danger. But it doesn’t occur to him that these could be the consequences of his actions immediately, until he receives threats—then he freaks out and starts second-guessing himself and distrusting everybody he knows.
