ESFP 7w8 Characters
ESFPs often run the risk of getting too caught up in their emotions in the moment, but under pressure can be efficient and rational decision-makers. When we first meet Alex, he’s a little too caught up in the moment—all he does is mess around, get himself into trouble, break into convenience stores, drink, and chase after pretty girls. Even in the navy, he allows his temper to get the better of him and winds up in a fistfight with a fellow officer—which gets him suspended, because he just can’t separate his emotional reactions from what’s appropriate. But, when an alien fleet arrives, destroys two other ships, and threatens humanity, that risk-taking, adventurous, opportunism that got him into so much trouble comes in handy, because he thinks fast on his feet. He goes out there to see what the ship is made of, and even walks onto it, across the waves. He orders them first to ram it in a reaction to his brother’s death (an emotional response) but then chooses to pick up the survivors in the water instead. He’s skilled in figuring out how to fire across their prow, mislead the aliens, get the stragglers off his ship, and bomb the island to take out their communications beacons. He wavers back and forth between emotional reactions and whip-smart problem solving skills, showing true leadership and an ability to make decisions under pressure that are tactical. But his inferior Ni is glaring—he never thinks about the consequences of anything he does, often to his own determent.
Enneagram: 7w8
Immature Enneagram 7s are self-destructive screw-ups according to other types, which is pretty much how Alex’s brother sees him. I mean, the guy breaks into a convenience store and trashes the place while drunk, just so he can steal a burrito and impress a hungry girl in the bar… which is how he winds up in the navy. His brother has had enough. But even there, Alex is still ‘causing trouble’ by playing pranks, getting into fights, breaking the rules, and risking being court-martialed in the process. He also isn’t hot on being in charge of a battleship, and has serious anxiety about being the highest ranking officer after his brother’s ship is bombed by the alien fleet. But… that’s when his 8 wing kicks in and he insists they are going to kick some serious alien ass, even if it costs them their lives. “Ram that ship!” He refuses to go down without a fight, and his quick thinking, self-confidence, resourcefulness, and take-no-prisoners attitude helps him defeat the enemies and save the world from total destruction. Even if he’s flat out terrified to ask the admiral if he can marry his daughter afterward (when he says no, Alex pleads, “But sir… I saved the world!”).
