MBTI Type: ESFJ
Ringo is a true extrovert, who talks almost constantly, which means he shares every thought and feeling that passes through his head. He is very much swayed by those around him and influenced by their morals—taking part in local traditions and enjoying their food, and wanting to know more about everyone around him. The Swordmaker tells him he values silence at one point, and that sends Ringo off on a story about how his father also loved it… Ringo is sensitive, kind, and emotional, looking after Mizu even when she does not ask him to, and trying to learn more about her. Beyond that, his main focus is on food. He is good at it, he loves doing it, he wishes he were the best at it. When he enters a new town, the first thing he does is to check out the local cuisine and rave about it. He focuses on keeping Mizu well-fed, and has to learn how to fight without getting killed. Then, he uses whatever weapon he has to hand (pots and pans, etc, or as she says, starts out with a kitchen knife). Her life inspires him and makes him want to become a Samurai, showing his lower Ne tendency to change his mind about what he wants for his life (first, chef!). But he doesn’t spend much time questioning things or trying to think rationally about them; he just takes care of others and tries to be useful to them.
Enneagram: 2w3
Ringo appoints himself as Mizu’s servant, even though she tells him to get lost, then continues to serve and tries to help and protect her, despite her protests. He turns down a good offer that would let him learn how to cook and achieve his greatest desire (“to be great!” as a chef) just to follow her around. Then, he drags her and Tagain back to the Swordmaker’s hut, where he helps out there too. He says repeatedly that all he wants to do is help others, but also to be great. He dreams of greatness, he wants to be “the best” at something (he does not care what, anything that would make him significant), etc. Ringo even goes after the good luck stick, but his wish is simply greatness—he does not wish for new hands!
