Taigen MBTI & Enneagram | Blue Eye Samurai

ESTP 6w7 Characters

Taigen started out as a child as a bully, influenced by the children around him into being mean and abusive to the “blue-eyed half-breed.” He grew into a proficient fighter and experienced Samurai with all the training and skills to prove it. He isn’t afraid to go into a fight, and is pretty good at almost winning (… defeating everyone except Mizu). He is quick to act, is creative in how he adapts to his environment, etc., but also suffers a lot from low Fe. Taigen has to be respected, he allows his morals (or lack thereof, early on) to influence his behavior, and it humiliates him to have his hair cut off and to be “shamed” in front of his peers. This sets him out to avenge his honor and have his good name restored. He is more logical than Mizu, and points out that the messenger sent to them is leading them into a trap, then is annoyed when she doesn’t care and just walks into the middle of it anyway. He becomes defensive when she challenges his “doomed relationship” with Akemi. Through the course of the story, his Fe develops and becomes more thoughtful and considerate of others, rather than just feeding his own ego. He experiences remorse for his bullying behaviors as a child and takes a genuine interest in Mizu. Ni does not show up much for him, if at all, other than being generally suspicious of others and their intentions, in alignment with being a fear-based type.

Taigen pretends to be an 8, but is really a strategic head type; his complaint about Mizu (a gut type) is that she does stupid, reckless things without ever thinking about them first (like going into what is, in his mind, a “trap” unarmed and unprepared to deal with it). He once uses her tactic of just attacking the front door, because he can’t think of anything else to do. But, he wants to be safe and not put his life at risk; in his mind, she’s foolish and headstrong and won’t listen. It’s easy for him to become insecure and lose faith in himself, despite his bravado; Akemi has to build him up and convince him that he can win back his honor by tracking down and killing Mizu, that it wasn’t a fair right and thus he was never defeated. When asked what he wants from life, Taigen concludes that he just wants to be “happy.” He admits that he is not ambitious and doesn’t want to be in charge of anything, which is quite different from the woman he thought he loved (she IS ambitious and DOES want power). Taigen says he saves Mizu because Mizu can’t die before he has his fight, but in reality he’s just a 6 being nice to his enemy—waiting to fight her until she has recovered her strength, pulling her out of scrapes, refusing to tell the enemy anything about her under torture, and even saving her life a few times. A lot of his motivation is a story of “honor,” wanting to live up to his super-ego desire not to just do things, but to do them right.
