Portia Featherington MBTI & Enneagram | Bridgerton

ESTJ 3w2 Characters

Portia is a very logical woman, who always takes a pragmatic approach to life; she is appalled to find out one of her daughters knows nothing about sex and imagines that a baby is going to be delivered by a stork, and proceeds to educate her on how one gets an heir, which is what she places most of her faith into (it has worked for centuries, it will work here; this is how it is in the real world, and we have to live here, so get busy!). She always has a logical, if blunt, answer to any question from her daughters about how to do things; when the older girls complain that Penelope is getting a more elaborate wedding than they had, their mother points out that Penelope is marrying a Bridgerton (rich) and they married relatively poor. She is concerned with finances and ‘security’ which for her, means marrying her daughters off well and aiming to increase their social status. She herself married for security and not for love, and it never made her happy, but that mattered less to her than making sure she could be provided for, and her children did make her happy and fulfilled her. She shows low Ne in her endless scheming, always looking for new opportunities and climbing onto them, and sometimes falling for a few hucksters here and there who come up with a good story. She may be blunt and pushy, but she really cares about her kids and wants what’s best for them; she tells Penelope that she thought the new dresses were just for her, and not that she thought she could attract a new husband with them, or she would have told her not to get her hopes up. She is awkward in expressing how she feels to her loved ones.

Enneagram: 3w2

Portia only wants the best lives for her children so she puts on a lot of airs, in an attempt to convince society that they are better off than they are, not as financially strapped as they might be, and she even quite happily participates in profiting off a scheme that rips off some of their friends, provided she can pay for new gowns for her daughters, so they can find the best possible suitors. She loves to put on a show, and sometimes comes across as trying too hard to gain acceptance. She also resents that the Bridgertons are so popular, attractive, and well-off, and is elated when Penelope marries into the family, since that will raise their own social standing in the process. For all her deceit, she is loyal to her daughters, and truly does want to provide for them as best she can. She thinks she is doing what is right for them, even if Penelope in particular doesn’t appreciate or want what her mother gives her (all those yellow, over-the-top gowns compared to the subtler shades of her friends).
