Joyce Highland MBTI & Enneagram | Call the Midwife

INTJ 1w2 Characters

Joyce already has her entire future mapped out, and is working steadily toward making her eventual dream of being a matron in a hospital a reality, by getting a nursing degree and working with the nuns. When Sister Julienne offers her a position after she graduates and passes her exams, Joyce says she still has plans and an idea of what she wants for her life, but she is happy to join them on a temporary basis. After her husband turns up, and tries to “drag her into the past,” Joyce tells him she has no interest in going back, only moving forward. She is authoritative and logical, easily learning from books and precise when dealing with the patients. Joyce can be both strict and permissive, in turns—she sometimes talks bluntly to others, and then asks them not to cry and hugs them when her words drove them to tears. She leaves her husband in no doubt of where she stands, and gives him all the facts about why she left him without so much as a note (he beat her, and made her miserable). But she doesn’t easily open up about her feelings or discuss them with others. Joyce is good with patients in that she can encourage them and tell them they are going to be fine, but always keeps her head and isn’t affected by their mood. She shows no real evidence of low Se other than her eagerness to do things for herself, to learn as much through books as through direct action, and her lack of interest in exercise.

Enneagram: 1w2

Unlike Rosland, Joyce comes into people’s lives with a very clear idea of what she thinks and feels about things, a sense that she is smart enough to figure them out for herself, and the confidence that she can do whatever she puts her mind to. She easily draws boundaries with others, but also sometimes lets her temper get the better of her and snaps at them, especially when she is in an emotional state herself and thinking about something that has gone wrong. It is important for her to be organized and to keep things tidy, but she also has a warm, encouraging side that she uses to put new mothers at ease and give them the confidence that they will come out of this ordeal fine, no matter what happens.
