Lady Tremaine MBTI & Enneagram | Cinderella

ESFP 3w4 Characters

Lady Tremain greatly enjoys lavish living and expensive things, from her fashionable gowns to her gambling debts. She moves in and immediately begins throwing parties and indulging in excesses. She is incredibly observant of her surroundings (enough to be suspicious of Ella’s behavior after the ball) and opportunistic in finding ways to exploit situations to her advantage – from marrying for financial security to using her knowledge of Ella’s secret to obtain an advantageous deal with the palace. Her mistreatment of Ella is motivated through spite, anger, and jealousy. She is so wrapped up in her own pain over losing “the love of her life” (her first husband), that she shows no regard for anyone else and instead takes out her feelings of anger and resentment on Ella. She can often be cutting and cruel, with the intention of wounding others … but more often, it is merely her simply articulating her feelings through blunt corrections. She often makes impulsive, emotionally-driven decisions (continuing to hate Ella when the truth comes out, instead of the more rational method of “making good” with her). She has no problem taking charge of a situation and coming up with a plan on how to benefit from whatever is happening around her. She realizes before her daughters do the financial devastation the loss of her husband wages upon the household. Lady Tremaine is a schemer who tries to maneuver her daughters into potentially powerful positions. Her emotions all show through her actions (from vindictively tearing apart Ella’s dress to snapping at her daughters). She is objective in her assessment of everyone around her, based on the observable facts of their behavior (she admits her daughters are “stupid”). She has insight into Ella that she uses against her, as well as a tendency to think in the long term when forced to (trying to provide for her future, and that of her daughters), but is not always correct in her perception of how things will turn out.

Enneagram: 3w4

Appearances are everything to Lady Tremain, who immediately rushes out to purchase new gowns for herself and her daughters when she learns they will be attending a ball, and assumes at least one of her “stupid” girls can catch the eye of the prince, even though she knows neither of them is beautiful or talented. She often uses “how it looks” as excuses and vindications for being mean to her stepdaughter, including turning Ella away from the breakfast table (how would it look for a girl covered in cinders to sit with us?) and in ripping Ella’s ball gown (we can’t show up together with you wearing that dowdy old thing!). She asserts herself and uses blackmail to get someone on her side in a plot against Ella, then lies and manipulates her way through the situation until she has to depend on Ella to rescue her, but never once debases herself or begs for forgiveness. Rather than merely shame Ella for her actions, she tries to bargain with her, insisting that Ella allow her to have control over the prince and make his decisions for him. She is a social climber in every worst way, and even inserts herself into conversations that are none of her business between the king’s advisors. But she has no real concern for Ella, and is wrapped up in her own feelings about everything, including how much she resents it that her husband seemed to love his pretty little blonde daughter more than his wife. He sent Ella the branch his sleeve brushed against, rather than any word to her on his deathbed, and she can never get over it. A 4 wing sense of envy, pride, and a desire to dwell in these emotions.
