Mark Antony MBTI & Enneagram | Cleopatra

ESFP 2w3 Characters

Antony is quick to react, but also ruled by his emotions. He easily gets swept up in the moment, as shown by his entrancement at the banquet with Cleopatra, when he gets drunk and then abandons her side to dance with her lookalike in the crowd (only to storm into her chamber and demand she speak with him alone; they wind up in bed together). He is a good soldier who likes to be on the front lines, and who defeats most of Caesar’s murderers, but who is not a good battle strategist, as shown in his naval defeat. His emotions constantly drive his decisions; he’s so madly in love with Cleopatra, he offends everyone in Rome and creates enemies by divorcing a powerful woman to be with the Egyptian queen instead. Cleopatra demands sizable concessions from him and he gives them to her, showing his lack of head for business concerns. He abandons his army and goes after her fleeing ship, believing she has betrayed him by running away, and then holds it against her and sulks even after she tells him she thought him dead and there was nothing left for her at sea. Antony also kills himself out of a spurt of angst, when he thinks Cleopatra has left him again. But he shows decent military tactics elsewhere in his career. Alas, his short-sighted decisions get him into trouble with his former allies.

Enneagram: 2w3

Mark makes all of his decisions with his emotions, and he’s very jealous of Cleopatra and overly attached to her. When she “abandons him” in battle, rather than stand and fight, he immediately goes after her, wounded that she would betray him after all he has done for her. He excessively “earns” love and expects it, defending and promoting Caesar and carrying out revenge for his brutal assassination. Frequently, he becomes upset because Cleopatra is not giving him her affection, despite him thinking he has “earned it.” He takes it personally when she slights him, or makes him bow before her in subjection, because it’s an affront to his image (he wants to be seen as her equal, if not her superior). He is charismatic, seeks power, and hates being demeaned in public. Mark often uses his 3 wing to actualize his desires, acting on them, demanding others’ care to his whims, and by self-promoting. He becomes arrogant, in his supposition that he deserves to be the emperor because of his great deeds. When captured, he provokes the others by demanding they fight and kill him in battle, rather than surrendering or asking for mercy. (He asks them to kill him honorably in a fight, and then when they refuse, goes back to Egypt and winds up killing himself in disgrace rather than get captured and defeated.)
