Tobias / Four MBTI & Enneagram | BeetlejuiceDivergent

MBTI Type: ISTJ

Four is down to earth. He is present in the moment, and able to distinguish between reality and fabrication in the tests they put him through. He faithfully continues to face them through prolonged training, while simultaneously trying to overcome deep-seated childhood trauma due to an abusive childhood. He offers Tris practical advice whenever they face a new challenge, and feels intense loyalty to his friends. Though he shies away from direct leadership, Tobias is capable of controlling a group and putting them through training. He organizes his team to win the flag, comes up with battle tactics, and heads into his mental testing with a plan of what to do to avoid detection as a “Divergent.” Rather than stay with his original faction, Tobias chose to act on his belief, his desire to get away from his father, and his yearning for a better life and choose another faction. He manages to remain impartial when it comes to judging those competing to join his faction. His emotions surface on occasion but mostly, he contains them. “Four” is a bit of a mystery to his teammates. Though he cares about Tris very much, he doesn’t come right out and say it—instead, he helps train her so that’s he can survive, he protects her in fights, and he stays at her side whenever she needs him. Tobias acts on his emotions rather than talk them through; including leaving his former home rather than face down his father. Wariness of what might happen if their Divergent status is revealed, Tobias is careful in his decisions and flies under the radar. He catches on quickly to what is happening when the others go under mind control and blends in to avoid detection. He is not above listening to new ideas and brainstorming ways to capture enemy agents and steal their flag. He senses what is going on with Tris, because he recognizes her abilities in himself (Si) and sees her potential.

Enneagram: 1w9

Four is a hard man to get to know, because he’s so secretive, quiet, and firm in his opinions. He has a staunch moral code that he sticks to, and he makes sure others know where his boundaries are and what will happen to them if they violate it, but doesn’t go poking his nose into other people’s business unless it seems like an injustice. He is excellent at self-control, learning to master his mind, and in figuring out how to beat the mental tests they put the Divergents through, except when it comes to his former trauma. He intimidates others because he is so stern, has almost no sense of humor, and is absolute in what he thinks. Four doesn’t flinch away from conflict, but holds his ground and expects others to yield. He also believes in doing what is ‘right’ and ‘good’ even if nobody else likes it, which is why Tris has confidence in his abilities.
