Major William Cage MBTI & Enneagram | Edge of Tomorrow

ISTJ 6w7 Characters

Dominant Introverted Sensing – a strong emphasis on being realistic and detailed, and on personal experiences being a reliable source of information: Cage has an incredible memory for everything he goes through and uses all of that compiled evidence to start skillfully navigating through his relived days, even if he’s not sure why this is happening to him. At first, he objects to donning a special suit and going into combat because he’s never worn one before, doesn’t know how it works, and can’t improvise on the battlefield, but over time and with repeated experiences, he becomes particularly skilled at his job and able to convince others to go along with him.

Auxiliary Extroverted Thinking – relying on facts, drawing logical conclusions, being efficient and straightforward: He is logical and driven, trying to use leverage to stay off the field of combat, pointing out how he was not trained for this, and convincing Rita to help him. He tries variations on logical saves in each timeline, learning from his experiences and remembering them going forward, so he won’t be foolish enough to make the same mistake twice. At times, Cage sees things as useless; he walks away from her in one timeline and continues fighting on his own, until he realizes he can’t do it without her. Some things, he sees as inevitable, and he cautions her against doing them (starting up the chopper gets her killed “every time).

Tertiary Introverted Feeling – unwilling to go against their personal values and self-contained in their feelings: He sees her die over and over and wants to save her every time, as he falls in love with her, but he never explicitly tells her how he feels about her, and has to laugh at the end when he gets to start all over again in gaining her trust.

Inferior Extroverted Intuition – curious about the future and in different possibilities, but skeptical of “unrealistic” ideas: Cage uses his lower Ne to go through every possible way to turn situations to his advantage, as he relives the day over… and over… and over… for months, until he breaks free of the loop and risks everything on one final act of desperate violence against their enemy.

Enneagram: 6w7

Enneagram 6 – a humble, loyal, kind individual who questions everything in a desire to understand it: Cage is very analytical and likes to know what he’s in for before he does something; he struggles to react from the gut and instead, uses his flash-backs to previous encounters to strategize and plan in advance how he intends to save his friends’ lives. Initially, he doesn’t want to join the invasion because he’s a coward, and he tries to talk the general out of it, then tries blackmail, and winds up forced to go out into the field without any proper training as a “deserter.” Cage naturally gravitates toward other people and wants them to like him and get along with him, so he finds ways to persuade them with words and is generally opposed to violence (he tells Rita not to shoot the general “again” in one of his relived days).

5 wing brings in an esoteric quality of withdrawing from others to create safety: He is also extroverted in his thinking enough to try and wriggle out of things, talk his way out of bad situations, and seeks excitement and self-soothing through avoidance, escapism, and drinking.
