Lyla builds the first part of her life around other people, namely Jason as she thinks about devoting herself entirely to him and what their future together might look like. She becomes a cheerleader because he’s into football, she thinks she needs to take care of him even after the accident because to break up with him is unfathomable. She is straightforward in sharing her feelings, the instant things happen—she often tells people (mostly men) off, she handles questions well without losing her cool, and she’s very good at making people feel supportive and loved. Being slut-shamed is super hard on her, as is being rejected for kids at school for having cheated on Jason, because she cares so much what other people think of her. Her Ni shows up early on—Lyla is so fixated on her future with Jason, she can’t imagine anything else; she has not thought about what she might do away from him, since she assumed she’d just get a school near his, get married to him, and have a couple of kids. It shocks her to think that might not happen, since she has counted on it for so long; and it’s hard for her to accept that Jason may never recover from his injuries. Her lower Se comes out under stress; she gets very impulsive and emotionally motivated. Lyla has a one night stand with Tim when she’s upset; she goes all in for Christianity, and then a few months later is back sleeping with Tim and drinking. She throws Jason’s ring in his face when she sees him kissing another girl (after impulsively agreeing to marry him in the first place). She flings her cheerleading outfit into a throw-away bin at the hotel after one of the games, and later says she burned it. Lyla is not good at thinking about her decisions from an unemotional viewpoint; she does not question her own intentions and tends to react primarily with her feelings.
Enneagram: 2w1
Lyla has a tendency to gravitate toward men she needs to ‘fix’ and she comes to life the most when they ‘need’ her for one reason or another. When Jason gets hurt, she shows up to the hospital, brings him treats, balloons, and is optimistic about his chances at recovery even when Jason and the doctors know the opposite. Their break-up happens because of her need for Tim Riggins and cheating on Jason, but also because Jason gets tired of her trying to ‘fix’ him – and she feels resentful that others do not show up, be supportive, and respect her for her selfless generosity. Lyla then moves on to helping out in a Christian youth program, visiting prisoners, and thinks she has to ‘help’ a convict find a new job and support in town; she convinces her father to give him a second chance. She is very sensitive, and also very hard on herself; after she cheats on Jason, she feels a great amount of remorse. She also deals with a lot of anger. Toward herself, toward Jason, toward Tim being irresponsible, toward her father for his habitual cheating ways, etc.
