Thirteen shows intuition on and off, as she reads into what House is actually trying to achieve with some of his erratic behaviors (drive her and Foreman apart, manipulate them into solving a case, testing out their feelings, pitting us against each other). She also has a low Ni fatalist outlook on life, seeing death as the inevitable outcome of her disease because there’s no cure, despite participating in drug trials. She doesn’t fear it, just talks about it with detachment. When taken hostage in “Last Resort,” Thirteen is philosophical and discusses morality, control, and what it means to live fully before you die (SeNi). She intended to euthanize her brother before his painful decline and goes through with it, but also makes a deal with House that he will do the same for her eventually, so she can “die with dignity.”

While Thirteen is often emotionally detached, when the team learns of Kutner’s sudden suicide, Thirteen breaks down in front of Foreman and has trouble getting back into the swing of things. She doesn’t know how to cope with this loss or how to process it, because she had no way to think about it ahead of time and it makes no sense to her. She briefly quits House’s team on a moral issue, after Foreman does something she believes is unethical. And in a rare moment of emotional openness, Thirteen talks to House about euthanizing her brother, becomes emotional, and cries in his presence. Many of her problems in relationships come from being stiff, unable to emotionally connect, and hiding her true feelings.

Thirteen, while a risk-taker in her personal life, also does not want to engage in risky behaviors at work that could get her fired. She advises caution in multiple cases and says they need to think about this before acting prematurely or risking the patient’s life with the wrong treatment. She both respects House and challenges him a lot, being suspicious of his motivations and intentionally withholding personal information from him so he can’t use it against her. She is careful whom she reveals personal things to in general, and the others see her as secretive. Even though she quits working for him multiple times, Thirteen always comes back out of enjoyment of solving cases and because she feels a sense of obligation to help his patients.
