MBTI Type: INTP
Tibby is something of a caricature, in that he is the intellectual in the family, more focused on his abstract hobbies, reading his books, quoting his poets, or listening to his favorite music, than he is interested in the mundane reality of the outside world and its chores – he leaves Margaret to do almost everything after they’re told they must move. She has to find a new house, arrange for them to be moved, etc., because Tibby is just… reading and daydreaming and writing and composing and doing all sorts of far more interesting things. He has occasional sharp insights into people, and a rather ruthless sense of humor; he doesn’t intend to insult Mr. Bast, but he does, and sends the man out into the rain in a tiff, simply by asking him an innocuous question. He has a few low Fe moral/ethical stances, such as vegetarianism, that he insists on abiding by.
Enneagram: 5w4
Tibby is a lazy intellectual, who loves to spend most of his time thinking about things, but prefers not to get too involved in things. He buries himself inside the house, avoiding human connections and catering to very specific interests, and doesn’t like his sisters’ attention going anywhere else, since he wants to monopolize it. He insists on one occasion that he is too sick, she can’t possibly go to Howards End and leave him all alone with no one to look after him (a bit of melodrama from his 4 wing). He can also be morbid, obscure, and enjoy depressing topics as sources of intellectual interests.
