INFJ 9w1 Characters
She does not want to get married at first, because as she tells her father, she has only had one (non-traditional) desire in her life, to become a teacher; and now she has to give it up, because her father has decided to arrange a marriage for her. When her friends tell her that good things could await her within a relationship, Mary counters with the idea that it might be a total disaster instead. She reluctantly comes to give Joseph a chance, after initially rejecting him, because it’s what her family wants. She also wanted to fall in love, and marry someone she cared about, rather than being betrothed to a stranger, showing more of her independence of thought in her culture. Mary is firm in her decisions; she never wavers once the angel tells her about her divine purpose, and calls out to God to carry her forward, since she may have to do this alone. She chooses to get married to protect the child, and also stands up for herself when King Herod’s son comes to threaten the child. Her Fe shows in how fierce she is in expressing her opinions, but also how she is willing to compromise to make others happy, how she accepts Joseph and his feelings, and allows him into her heart once he has proven himself worthy. Mary wants to know many things, and is disappointed when the angel disappears on her, since “I have so many questions!” She “ponders these things in her heart” (Ti). She shows some impulsiveness under stress, such as running off to spend time with her cousin, taking a chance while pregnant to cause a distraction, and getting married at the spur of the moment for her own safety.

Mary is resolute in what she believes, and she trusts her own judgment, even when things do not promise to be easy for her; she sings a song about how she doesn’t understand how God is entrusting her to carry his son, when she needs him to “carry her” instead, as she moves forward alone. She doesn’t know if she can do this alone, but makes up her mind to do so, if that is what is necessary, and does not allow others to deter her thinking in any way. She frowns at Joseph at first, because he flirted with her not knowing they were betrothed, and she sees that as a potential sign of bad character, but then decides to give him a second chance and eventually comes to love him, once he proves himself worthy of her. She also reminds him that he was also Chosen for this task, and encourages him to stand up for what he believes. Unlike him, she is firm when she makes up her mind that they need to get married right now, to protect the child, and she sees no need to involve anyone else in the process (they don’t have time to send for their mothers). Her 1 wing is firm in that regard; though she question things under stress, Mary often has firm ideas of right and wrong, and what she should do, and who needs to go along with her.
