Franklin is a genius at hacking computer systems, making them work, and getting them to do what he wants them to do, but pretty much sucks at interacting with the outside world, knowing how to cope on an island that is about to explode, or in interacting with other people. They brought him along because he’s the best programmer in the business, but then he gets swept up in events and must go along with them. He shows no ability to think fast on his feet, unless it involves a computer – he looks for tech-related solutions rather than practical, real-world ones (in strong contrast to Zia), and defaults to asking for help when there are no obvious “hacks” to a system. He finds it deeply uncomfortable to work in an unstable environment unfamiliar to him, and only perks up when dealing with high tech. Franklin falls into inferior Fe behaviors under stress, becoming loud about his feelings and opinions, trying to go along with what others want, ignoring anything that makes him uncomfortable, and even laughably saying that he and Owen are “not compatible” because of Owen being such a bad-ass.

Franklin shows himself as a fearful type right off the bat; he lathers himself in bug spray once they reach the island, then nervously asks whether the T-Rex has died (“she’s dead by now, right?”). When the ground shakes, he assumes she has come to eat them all, then later fears that she is in the tunnels and is coming for them (she isn’t, but it’s something as bad or worse). He nervously tries to help Zia with the Raptor, and then asks for outside opinions when he finds it impossible to stop the gas leak (what should we do, release them or let them die?). He focuses on being competent within his job, and is proud of his work, but also has an anti-outside-world attitude. Franklin didn’t want to go to the island and resents being forced into going there.
