Mason is very sensitive, gentle, and compassionate; she does not like to kill anything or see them being hurt, and rushes to help wherever she can, rather than let an animal suffer. She forms a silent bond with Kong in his shared understanding that she cares about him and does not want to see him killed; later, she faces down the marines and basically tells them if they want to kill Kong, they will need to kill her first. She views things through the lens of her camera a great deal, and mourns that humans can be so savage to each other. Mason says at one point that she has seen awful things all over the world, but nothing that compares to this island. She is generally good at adapting to her surroundings and willing to set out beyond the safety of the fence and explore. Keeping up with the other team-mates is easy for her, but at times she puts herself at risk to get a good picture. She, out of all of them, first knows that Kong is not a destroyer, but a savior, by forming a silent bond to him and intuitively understanding his intentions. She does not show much inferior Te, except in her decisive nature.

Mason is a lot more cautious than anyone else on the team, and suggests they get moving away from danger rather than toward it, but is also willing to help wherever she can—rushing to try and free a giant water buffalo from broken pieces of an airplane. This generosity and gentles of spirit is what makes Kong see her as not a threat, and feel fondness toward her, because even though she is scared of him, he knows she means him no harm. She generally is cautious, and thinks they should turn the helicopters around even before trouble hits, then doesn’t want to stray too far from the safety of the boat, or go into the valley with the soldiers. But she also has an adventurous spirit, and has traveled all over the world taking photographs.
