ESFP 2w1 Characters
ESFPs follow wherever their feelings lead them, and fall in and out of love quickly; they waste no time in leaping into whatever interests them, and enjoying the moment and living it to the fullest—as Constance exemplifies in her many encounters with Oliver in the woods, in the rain, in a run-down shack, all over the estate, with very little concern for who might see them or where the consequences could lead (this ties into her tendency not to think about the future much, until it becomes important when she falls pregnant and has to decide about the baby’s future and who she will claim is the father). Constance initially does not feel cheating is for her, and gets offended when her husband suggests it to get a “legitimate heir,” but then her feelings for Oliver lead her into his arms and the rest is history. She is adamant with her best friend that she needs to do what her heart feels, and be true to herself, even if it creates trouble for the estate or causes a scandal. She also says in a letter that she is stifled and dying without things to do in the country—she misses the excitement and parties of London, where she could happily meet people, drink and dance. And because she is so physical, going without sex is horrific for her, but she mostly bears it without complaint, deeply internalizing it instead.
Enneagram: 2w1
Constance initially falls in love with her husband and marries him for the emotional closeness and intimacy it provides, but then plays the dutiful and sexless role of a faithful wife when he gets injured and can no longer be with her “in that way.” She maintains their marriage through a sense of duty and obligation, bathing him, seeing to his needs, and starving for love, affection, and sex. When he tells her to take a lover, she is horrified and angry that he would tell her to be immoral and then pass the child off as his own, but then feels herself drawn to the games keeper and falls into a steamy love affair, which emotionally satisfies her and allows her to break away from her sexless, repressed marriage and seek freedom with her lover elsewhere.
