ENTP 3w2 Characters

Daniel is a pretty good portrait of a young writer ENTP—he cares to write about what people want to read and knows how to tug on their heartstrings (a gift of lower Fe). He thinks his writing can change the world and sees it as important, so he spends most of his time hunting for stories, being a wordsmith, and starting up his own newspaper in Candleford. He is very intuitive and insightful, seeing the potential in Laura immediately, calling her a true writer, and saying she is drawn to him because she wants to ask his opinion on her work (this is correct). He sells her mother on the idea of the life she could have if she inherits money from one of her relatives – she could move out of her poverty into Candleford. It fills up her head with ideas and she goes on to indulge all of them, while he moves on to a new angle. He sees a chance to start a business and does so, then says if it fails, it doesn’t matter because it’s worth the experience. Daniel at first fails to see the affect he has on the people around him—he’s so keen for a story, he sees people as cogs in his machine, and it’s only later when he must face them and sees their pain, anger, and frustration with him, and the hurt he has caused them, that he wants to make amends. He then proves to be charming and has increasing concern for the lives of those around him. He is not attentive to details other than those required to get out his paper.

At one point, Laura asks Daniel where he gets all his self-confidence from, and Daniel merely says he’s ambitious and knows what he wants. He comes to Candleford in search of a story, and then wants the fame and accolades that come along with it. He gets off on the wrong foot with all of them, because he exploits Laura’s family to get his story in a London newspaper—shamelessly using information he gathered from Laura’s journal to write his article. He admits that he isn’t a true writer (Laura is) because he cares more about the end result than the poetry of it. Then he feels guilt about what he did and wants to make it up to them—which means leaning more into his 2 wing as he looks for ways to make a difference in the community. He tries to help a man with a wooden leg by writing an article about his plight—which benefits them both since it gets money for the old man and sells his own newspaper, which he has just started. Daniel also gives Laura gifts a lot of the time, and becomes more and more likable as the series goes on, but he is always ambitious and unafraid to admit that he has grand intentions.
