Jack is an aggressive, no-nonsense attorney who knows the law inside and out well enough that he can force it to bend over backward to accommodate his desires. He takes the hardest route possible in order to force the best outcome, which, in his mind, includes the maximum penalty for misbehavior. He thinks extremely fast on his feet and can change his tactics in the courtroom with little notice as things become apparent to him. Jack is resistant to authority and takes matters into his own hands; he only becomes more politically minded when he has worked his way into the top tier of management. Jack comes up with theories on the spot, and notices things other people don’t—in one case, he’s interrogating a parent about the murder of his wife and two of his children, only to suddenly pick up on something the daughter says and accuse her of hiring the assassin to kill her mother. This turns out to be correct. He and Adam conflict over Jack’s tendency to leap to a conclusion and frame the motives for a suspect (“it’s not the husband, it’s the wife!”), because Adam tells him to “get evidence to support it.” Jack finds it hard to change his mind once he has made it up, since he can envision no other way of this crime having been committed; he also takes a big picture view of things, but has a shortcoming in his personal life. Jack makes a lot of impulsive professional decisions; he acts aggressively, he breaks the rules, he takes things as far as he can, and assumes it won’t backfire. Jack tends not to doubt his conclusions, although he asks Claire once or twice what her opinion is when it differs from his own. His chronic affairs with his fellow DA’s comes back to bite him in the butt (and the reputation) several times, since it calls his professionalism into question. He becomes assertive and pushes people in the courtroom, sometimes bullying them to get them to react (using Se for ‘force’). Jack does not take kindly to being manipulated, “played,” maneuvered around, or bossed around; he is resistant to authority and often defiant in the face of it, going against direct orders and overstepping his jurisdiction. If he believes something is immoral, Jack will fight against it, risking his career in the process. His desire for justice can be so intense that he tramples on personal rights and the Constitution. Despite this, he is a compassionate man who feels intensely, but prefers to drink away his feelings rather than discuss them.

Jack is a highly aggressive lawyer who doesn’t always do things “by the rules.” He bends them to get a conviction, including deceiving people, telling the cops to inform the witness of which person to identify in the lineup (he says he would never use their testimony anyway, it was just to get a search warrant), and manipulating the facts to suit the crime. Jack will sometimes get taken to task by a judge for bullying people on the stand, and his 1-core coworkers get on his case a lot for breaking the rules, ignoring evidence, and some of his other tactics, but he’s also more objective than they are in making decisive deals to close his case. He advocates for giving a serial killer 25 years to life just to “keep him off the street and prevent him from killing anyone else,” even though Abbie, a 1w9, points out that he should be held responsible for all six murders, not just one. Jack sleeps with his coworkers, assuming it will never catch up to him or threaten his standing with the bar; and when one of them manipulates evidence to ensure a conviction, and later it’s exposed, he’s very upset to think his reputation is being questioned. Jack will sometimes back down on a harder sentence if he feels the person responsible has been coerced or needs help; he lets a few people slip through the cracks without prosecuting them on strict terms, because they pulled at his heartstrings. He justifies most of his decisions in the courtroom and insists he is maintaining the high moral ground, whether or not that is true (his 7 wing re-framing things and keeping him in good moral standing in his own eyes).
