INFJ 3w2 Characters
Leon has a personal vision he orients his entire focus toward; his entire motives never become clear in the story, but it involves taking control of Africa, using slavery, and the diamond trade, to establish a dominating universal power, presumably with him at its head. His intentions are so private, even his subordinates cannot predict what he will do. He plans things in advance, and lays them out sometimes for other people (if I take you, Jane, your husband will come for you, and then he will be exactly where I want him to be). Charm covers up his utter ruthlessness; Leon adopts a pleasant, amiable demeanor of politeness and emotional persuasion even to his enemies. He insists Jane be “appropriate” and “polite” even when he holds her captive and they dine together. He often uses emotional manipulation on her, and seems to enjoy feeling her anxiety. His plans are solid in his own mind, and logical, but not always the quickest method to get something done; it’s more about understanding his adversaries, and messing with their minds, than exerting immediate dominance. Leon takes risks… and one of them gets him killed. He seems to have no awareness of physical danger, so much so he walks into the middle of a furious band of gorillas and asks Jane to give her his hand. He enjoys wealth, opulence, fine dining, and wearing immaculate, tailored white suits, even in the jungle. But his extremely poor sensory awareness means he cannot adapt when Tarzan lures him into a physical trap.

Leon says at one point that he cares about his legacy and what he leaves behind, but he doesn’t particularly care how he gets there. He is incredibly driven and ambitious in finding Tarzan and turning him over to an enemy tribe leader in exchange for the diamonds he wants. In part, he knows this will shape the world and make him rich, but it’s also the thrill of achievement. 3s can be super focused, driven, and determined to get what they want, and can be conniving along the way when unhealthy. Leon puts on a fake niceness to cover up his aggression and ruthlessness; he insists on everyone minding their manners and pretending to get along on board ship. But he uses his 2 wing mainly to think of himself as providing a “service” for others in which they both get what they want, so everyone wins. It’s unfortunate in his mind that Jane got herself in the way, and now has to die, but these things can’t be helped—and in the meantime, we should smile at each other and pretend everything is pleasant and nice, and get along until such time as I kill you.
