MBTI Type: ISFJ
Cady is very attentive to the “here and now” needs of those around her, and uses her law degree to help people out of messes. It bothers her when her father gets into trouble without considering the effect his actions might have on others. She knows the law inside out and backward, and is a stickler for adhering to it. Whenever her father needs her, she’s there to help him in practical ways (bringing food, caring for him after an accident, etc). But she also shows a lot of Fe in that she consciously represses her own desires in favor of doing what she feels is best for others; she hides her relationship with a deputy from her dad, because she knows he would disapprove, and she does not want to hurt his feelings by dating someone running against him for sheriff. She breaks up with this man for that reason, denying herself what she wants out of concern for her father’s feelings. Cady wants to do what’s best for the Cheyenne and prioritizes helping them over her own financial gain, even signing up to do pro-bono work. She turns down a lucrative job at a law firm because it’s a conflict of interest and would mean betraying some of her confidences and/or hurting the people close to her. She logically figures things out, and tries to understand them, but is also up front about her feelings (when she finds out about her mom, she confronts her dad, admits she is hurt, and then avoids him for awhile). Cady’s Ne is good in the sense that she is idealistic and hopeful about her future prospects, but she is also naïve in that she doesn’t see through people or situations until she is in the thick of them. She doesn’t realize why the law firm hired her until they ask her to violate her principles; she never suspects the truth about her mother, because her father never lets on that he is hiding anything; she sometimes trusts that people are good and have pure intentions because that’s what she wants from them, only to be shocked when they prove her wrong with violent or criminal behavior.
Enneagram: 2w1
Cady just wants to help, and defines herself by how much influence she can have in the lives of others, to the extent that she is willing to volunteer her time and attention to the tribe without expecting any kind of financial compensation. She takes in a girl who hangs around her office and offers her a job, paying her well for it, because it feels wrong or bad to accept unpaid assistance. Though her father resists and rejects her attempts for her to look after him, Cady does so anyway. Once she realizes Henry has an alternate ego, she doesn’t tell on him and tries to protect him from exposure by forgetting pertinent facts. Cady isn’t always aware of boundaries in her desire to be useful to others, and when Henry tells her not to volunteer with the tribe, because they won’t accept her and will only hurt her feelings with their distrust, she does it anyway. Her heart tells her to act, so she must. She is also concerned with being ethical and good, using her anger about injustice to drive her into action rather than sitting on her hands, and sometimes getting after her father for breaking the law or thinking he can just do whatever he wants, regardless of the consequences. She is mad enough after finding out about her mother’s murder not to talk to him for a while.
