Mac MBTI & Enneagram | MacGyver

ESTP 7w6 Characters

Mac is the embodiment of someone who pays attention to the environment and gets his body in tune with it – he thinks fast on his feet, which makes him formidable against bad guys and in getting out of all kinds of situations. This ranges from climbing through treacherous buildings to subterranean labs to rescue people, to often falling in love with a beautiful woman over the course of a few days / an adventure. He gets his body involved in everything he does, and learns by doing things—as is exemplified in the close-up shots of his hands as he “rigs” things (Ti) in the opening credits. Few things intimidate him – he can jump out of planes and/or rig cars into massive parachutes, figure out how to break into a high-tech building and pour a million dollars worth of diamonds down the rain drains, or jump out of the underbrush, wrestle a bad guy out of his jeep, and take it over. Rigging things is his specialty, and the show showcases him doing this on a weekly basis… using the formula compound inside of a chocolate bar to stop an acid leak, for example. Mac had to know what two things would react together to make what he wanted to happen transpire, and the outcome of that reaction, to even think about using it defensively. That’s all he does, throughout most of the episodes—consider situations and then figure out workarounds in a truly spectacular example of introverted thinking. Nothing can’t be solved, using what the environment offers (Se) and his knowledge of science, mechanics, etc (Ti). He also has an excellent use of his feeling function—Mac is warm, friendly, and likable to just about everyone he meets. He easily comforts kids and looks after their welfare; he puts his life at risk to save families who need him; he will rig up workable stuff for the people who take him in, out of genuine compassion for their welfare (such as fixing a water pump, so a kid doesn’t have to trek miles to fetch clean water for his mother). He can be charming, persuasive, and considerate, without becoming too sentimental. But he also lives a carefree lifestyle—not deeply entrenched anywhere, and with no solid/substantial plans for his future, which shows a lack of intuition; although at times, he does get a “hunch” about people, situations, or outcomes that he trusts to guide him that often times prove correct.

Enneagram: 7w6

Mac is an assertive type for sure; he needs a little time to think, but then fearlessly tackles any problem that comes his way, confident he can find a workaround. He also tends to re-frame things, and focus on the positive if others get too negative—pointing out that there’s always something nice to think about, a silver lining in every cloud, etc. Mac has chosen a profession that allows him to travel around the world, to see places and meet people, and that avoids any kind of boredom or stagnation. He has never gotten married, either, which suggests he prefers a life without feeling “trapped” inside of a relationship. Kids like him because he is fun and optimistic, and women like him because of his genteel nature and intelligence. I considered an 8 wing, because he doesn’t second-guess himself much, but he doesn’t seem to have that gut push. Mac prefers to get along with people rather than strong-arm them, a tendency of a 6 wing—make allies and friends.
