Charlie MBTI & Enneagram | Monster-in-Law

ESFP 6w7 Characters

Charlie says she doesn’t see the point in living every day “the same way,” which is why she has a ton of unfinished hands-on stuff in her apartment—she paints, she draws, she has tried out many hobbies, she dog-walks, and refuses to be tied down to any one thing. Her major blind-spot is in taking her future mother-in-law at face value, and assuming she’s not being manipulative right away, which can be a problem for ESFPs because they live so much in the moment, they aren’t always thinking about the ulterior or hidden motives in other people’s behaviors. She even dismisses the idea that Viola would poison her with nuts (she’s allergic) because “she’s not a psycho-killer.” ESFPs live and let live, and are pretty fluid in moving between jobs, careers, and relationships as the urge strikes them, and Charlie has a history of being hard to pin down, unsettled, and not really wanting to commit to any one thing. She’s also aware of what she wants, and at first, accommodating to Viola, until she catches onto her diabolical intentions to ruin her life (this is only after one of her friends finds physical evidence that makes her suspicious), and then sets out to “get her back” in similar ways. Charlie wants to fit in and be appropriate, but not to the extent of sacrificing her own wants for the wedding—and makes Viola uncomfortable in return for her relentless abuse. She’s quite proactive in making whatever she wants to happen, happen… ESFPs are good at that, since it doesn’t take them long to come up with and execute a plan. She’s also gullible in believing that the man she ultimately marries is “gay” just because another girl suggested it to her.

Enneagram: 6w7

Charlie is a 6w7. She is a clear attachment type who wants to get along with people and who puts her own feelings aside in order to accommodate others. Attachment types try to adjust to other people (3, 6, and 9) rather than go through them, but we also see some of her aggressive 7 wing in how at a certain point, she will slam on the breaks. She is eager to be liked, but also not afraid to assert herself—and her refusal to settle on any one thing as a career or a hobby suggests how 7ish she can be—easily distracted, easily bored, and afraid to commit. After being proposed to, she gets a little anxious and rethinks her acceptance, because “we’re too young to settle down,” and “this seems permanent,” but then she says she’s being silly, she loves him and they should get married! Anxiety about the future being full of constant conflict with Viola makes her rethink her wedding. She can also be overly apologetic—after slapping her mother-in-law in a rage, she apologizes for it (but then slaps her a bunch more times, after being slapped in return). She worries about being disruptive and doesn’t want to cause problems in Kevin’s life, but can also be vindictive as she gives Viola a taste of her own medicine.
