ENFP 6w7 Characters
Eliza’s mind is always leaping forward to the next thing, whether that’s to be fantasizing about all the ways Henry Higgins could die and she’ll sneer over his corpse in retaliation for his mistreatment of her, or after the ball ends, she suddenly starts thinking about what’s next, and whether she will get thrown out like “baggage.” When Henry says he could teach her like a proper lady, she immediately runs to his home to offer to pay him for lessons, caught up in the fantasy of being a “shop girl.” Though she expresses hatred for him to his face, she winds up doing the opposite and coming back to him at the end of the musical, because she can’t leave him, which is a common trope with ENFPs… looking forward to the future while being rooted firmly in the past and attached to their people. She’s fiercely Fi in that she is forever using herself as a measuring stick, and referencing the things she will and will not do; “I am a good girl, I am!” she insists, while refusing to be seen as a call girl. Eliza gets so wrapped up in her own feelings that she’s oblivious to how Freddy feels about her, and sings about other things while he’s trying to express his love for her. She’s easily hurt and offended, getting upset and flying off the handle or sinking into the background with frustration when others fail to give her credit where it’s due (they praise each other, and don’t thank her for being perfect at the ball). Eliza tends to react on her feelings and get very angry, blunt, and even hurtful in how she ‘rationally’ focuses on things, such as insisting upon knowing what is hers to keep of the wardrobe, and turning over the jewels to Henry, including throwing the ring he gave her in his face. She calls him all manner of names and insults, but once she achieves her goal, is lost because she has no idea of what to do with herself, and can’t go back to her former life as a flower girl. Eliza goes home to wander the streets in hopes of being recognized, only to realize she doesn’t fit in with “them people” no more.
Enneagram: 6w7
Eliza certainly belongs to the reactive triad—she’s highly over-reactive, easily insulted, and always ranting about something; but just as quickly, can be subservient, submissive to authority, and lapse into super-ego insistences about being a good girl who has never harmed anyone. As much as she loathes the professor, she still obeys him and does everything he says. Their meeting involves her assuming he is out to get her, taking down her words, and that she’ll be hauled off and put into prison. Her negativity and fear rears its head again when she doesn’t know what her future holds, and is afraid of being thrown out onto the street or accused of stealing—distrusting two men who have, for all intents and purposes, been “kind” to her; Eliza doesn’t trust them and misjudges both of their character, despite spending weeks with them. Her 7 wing is excited about a new life, and loves to fantasize; she tries to keep away from her negativity at times, but always lapses back into a self-deprecating attitude (she’s no one in particular, just Eliza).
