ISFJ 6w5 Characters
Madeline has a hard time imagining a different life with Nicholas, because the only one she has ever known has been full of cruelty and hardship; she has never found anyone trustworthy in which to place her faith, and every ‘good and kind thing’ that came her way was ‘a trick.’ Madeline is sensible and attentive to their immediate needs. She knows how the world works and how to make her way in it through the traditional methods (selling her artwork, searching for things to do to accommodate her father’s lavish, selfish needs, and even considering marrying someone who can provide for her to erase her father’s debt). Madeline is not a risk-taker, but instead focused on practicality and necessity. She confesses to Nicholas that she is “tired of being strong.” She is easily hurt by her father’s insults and slights, and concerned at the way others perceive her; Madeline is distressed that both times she has met Nicholas, she has been in a heightened emotional state and/or in need of assistance. She finds it hard to walk away from the people she loves, though they do not always treat her with kindness. Madeline is open-hearted and generous with her affections, able to offer emotional support to Nicholas when he needs it. She is also willing to sacrifice her own happiness and chances at love to care for her father and his needs! Underneath her quiet demeanor lies the heart of an artist, showing an ability to see the world not merely for what it is but what it could be. She sees equal potential in her pairing with Nicholas; he offers her a chance at a new life free of fear and she gladly accepts it. Prior to their involvement, Madeline lived in constant concern over what the future might hold.
Enneagram: 6w5
Madeline struggles to accept Nicholas’ offer of love and help, because she confesses that she has a hard time not seeing every offering of love and goodness as some sort of ‘trick’ due to her prior experiences. She feels a tremendous sense of super-ego duty to her horrible father, so much so that she remains loyal and in servitude toward him, despite him being undeserving of it and making demands upon her constantly. She finds it hard to trust people until they prove themselves worthy and is in all ways looking for a ‘protector,’ someone to save her and look after her—which is what draws her to Nicholas. He has the strength she is ‘tired’ of producing, and she admits that she’s exhausted from always being strong and just wants to lean on someone else for a while. She is somewhat withdrawn, but also self-reliant and able to make her own decisions; she makes a logical choice in going to her mothers’ old beau and asking him for help when her family is most in need, though she conceals the truth from her father to avoid his condemnation.
