Captain Hook / Killian Jones MBTI & Enneagram | Once Upon a Time

MBTI Type: ESTP

Hook is aware of his environment and its potential to be useful. Hook enjoys taking advantage of situations and reading the intentions of his companions in their subtle mannerisms and behaviors. He finds it easy to get in synch with them, which makes him good at manipulation; Hook is an opportunist who can revise his plans on the fly, who gets a thrill out of a chance for action, and is quick to take action. He remains emotionally detached from most situations, and able to analyze them from various vantage points. He then guides his decisions in ways that are both logical and take advantage of the moment. He is a man of few words, who speaks carefully and chooses his sentences for impact (sometimes merely to create the greatest effect). His own emotions are subdued, but Hook does show them on matters of importance. He is capable of losing his temper on occasion, but also feels a strong pull to defend and protect the people he loves (his brother, and later, Emma). Hook adapts to the company he is in, and his values are always shifting to accommodate new groups and their universal goals. Though he hates to admit it, he has more compassion than he lets on and sometimes even goes out of his way to help others.  Though he enjoys having companions, Hook is also somewhat solitary and enjoys having time alone to evaluate his intentions and plan a future course of action. He has a strong sense of how things will unfold and likes to direct that future toward his own advantage; he tends to visualize what he wants and then pursue it, be that revenge or the woman he loves.

Enneagram: 7w8

Hook wants a life of adventure and excitement. He avoids the pain of loss by running away from it, and choosing hedonism and pursuit of pleasure rather than to deal with his deeper emotions. Hook is playful and good-natured, but also easily uses anger and aggression to get what he wants. He has no self-judgment about taking another man’s wife, because he feels that he can love her “better” and give her a more interesting life. When Rumple kills her in front of him, Hook becomes hell-bent on revenge. It’s hard for him to admit to his sensitive feelings, but the more he cares for Emma, the easier it is for him to turn away from “bad” and make sacrifices for the greater good. He joins up with Cora at first, then switches sides to help Emma and her family; he changes his mind about wanting revenge on Rumple in favor of breaking the curse over all of them, taking them to find Henry, etc.
