Neal / Balefire MBTI & Enneagram | Once Upon a Time

ISFP 9w8 Characters

Neal is very judgmental of his father after he becomes the Dark One, and thinks that he is making cruel, inhumane decisions that involve other people, such as turning them into snails and stomping on them. His anger about this leads him to run away from his father, or try to find a way to turn him “good” by taking him to a world without magic. His intense morals lead him to offer to sacrifice himself to Pan’s Shadow, after Wendy and her family take him in, rather than see any of them taken away to Neverland. Later, he has real feelings for Emma, but struggles to talk about them, and suffers from tremendous guilt after he abandons her to her fate. Neal is quick-thinking and opportunistic. He has a great desire to see the world and to travel, which itches beneath his father’s strictness—and he runs away to follow the Piper and to dance without inhibitions. Once in London, Balefire steals into a house and eats anything he can find, then hides out with the children in their room until he’s adopted by them. He adapts to his life in Neverland, and becomes friends with Hook, as they bond over their shared sense of abandonment, but he runs away when he finds out the truth about his mother. Elsewhere, Neal is forever jumping into portals and creating situations in which he can take direct action. He makes his living as an adult as a thief, who rips people off, and starts a life of crime with Emma. He runs away from his father, and tries to avoid confronting him. He shows very little Ni, but some low Te behaviors – he is direct and blunt under stress. He knows squid ink can help them in Neverland, so he calls up one and kills it, so his father can harvest its ink for a spell.

Enneagram: 9w8

Neal has a lackadaisical attitude toward things; when he wakes up in the backseat and finds Emma stealing his car, he calmly talks to her about it, then covers for her when the cops show up by saying he was teaching his girlfriend how to drive. They fall in love and run around stealing things, until August convinces him to leave and to let Emma fulfill her destiny. He avoids a direct confrontation with his father, choosing instead to run away (several times, in different realms). But then he will turn around and show his temper—fighting with Hook and yelling at him (because he knows they both love Emma), confronting his father and giving him “three minutes” to state his case, and feeling resentment over his father abandoning him. He challenges Hook as a young boy, angry and wanting to avenge his mother. And he is self-motivated in going after what he wants.
