Maddie Nears MBTI & Enneagram | School Spirits

ISTP 6w7 Characters

Maddie is fairly logical and laid-back in how she accepts her death; she just wants to figure out how it happened and why, rather than ‘make peace’ with it and move on. So she goes around the school, trying to figure out stuff, then wondering why her best friend can hear her where no ghost has made human contact before, and slowly pieces together bits of her fractured memories. Mostly, though, she shows significant amounts of low Fe in how she at first resists being part of the therapy group, then gradually gets emotionally invested in it, and finally starts to care about everyone in it. When the rational solution exists, Maddie ignores her feelings in the process—such as encouraging her cheating ex to take her ex-best friend to the dance, to find out information. She also tries to be responsible for others and their feelings, even if she does it poorly (she goes out with Wally, but is so preoccupied with her ex, she hurts his feelings accidentally). Because Maddie takes everything at face value, she doesn’t see the truth about people until it is too late—her boyfriend was cheating on her, her best friend was taking photos of her, and Simon was in love with her this entire time, and because none of them were direct about it, she never knew the truth until she started to unravel the circumstances behind her death. Not once does she guess the real person responsible for her death, or their motives; she follows the clues in a logical fashion, drawing singular conclusions from them that she suspects are the answer until they’re proven wrong; then she starts the process anew each time. Some of her solutions were logical but also risky—such as claiming she crashed the car, when her mother got into a drunken accident; she did it impulsively so she would not be taken away from her mom and placed in foster care, but it might also have negative consequences down the road.

Enneagram: 6w7

Maddie bounces back and forth between being paranoid about people and their intentions and not wanting to think the worst of those she loves and cares about; she shoots down some of Simon’s suggestions because she doesn’t want to see that person in a bad light, or said they were nice to her, or doesn’t want to think of them as having killed her. But she will also become convinced that someone had something to do with her death, and follow them around the school, digging into their past, second-guessing their motivations, etc. Prior to that, Maddie was a highly responsible girl who wound up parenting her own mother and keeping her out of trouble; she even took the ‘wrap’ for her mom by claiming she crashed their car into a tree after her mother drunk-crashed, because ‘better I lose my license than lose her.’ In a drastic confrontation with her mom, after finding out her mom took her college cash and spent it on something else, Maddie unloads on her about how she has spent her entire life taking care of her, and keeping her out of trouble, and how resentful she is that her mom never had her back.
