Milo Tindle MBTI & Enneagram | Sleuth

ENTP 7w8 Characters

Dominant Extroverted Intuition—chasing after idealistic possibilities, conjuring up theories, and focusing on what’s happening in the bigger picture: Milo doesn’t have a very realistic perception of what his life is going to be like with another man’s wife, and it catches him off guard when Wyke asks him a lot of questions about his lifestyle, background, and financial situation. He just thought Wyke could divorce her, so they could get married, and live off his income from his hair salons. But when Wyke sells him on the idea of defrauding the insurance company and making off with a load of jewels worth a couple hundred thousand pounds, Milo sees the potential in that offer and climbs on board. (SPOILERS) It’s only in the second half that we find out just how clever Milo can be. He stages his own murder and disappearance, shows up in disguise to expose Wyke and mess with his mind, then pretends he murdered his girlfriend on a whim and buried her body in the garden—all things he set up on the spur of the moment the day before, while Wyke left the house for a few hours. He came up with it all instantly, leaped into action to do it, and it plays out exactly as he intends… with the minor hiccup that he winds up actually dying for his prank. But at least he called the cops so they can arrest his murderer ahead of time. Right?

Auxiliary Introverted Thinking—looking for loopholes to exploit existing systems, and a desire for logical consistency: He, like Wyke, is loyal and analytical, reasoning out things as he thinks through them and pointing out potential problem areas—how can he fence the jewels without being caught? Why not just sell them rather than commit fraud? But since he sees the logic in the scheme, he goes along with it. And he finds logical ways to manipulate Wyke in the name of a “prank” to pay him back for scaring Milo half to death. He sees the logic in admitting that his mistress over-spends, that he can’t afford to keep her, and that having some extra money around the house would be useful down the road.

Tertiary Extroverted Feeling—gauging the emotional environment with a desire to influence it in their favor, and often being out of touch with their true feelings: Both Milo and Wyke are heavily invested in emotionally affecting each other and giving one another negative, frightening experiences in the name of “a joke” (humor). Milo feels so angry and humiliated by his experience, he goes out of his way to dress up as a cop, accuse Wyke of his murder, wrestle him onto the couch, and then remove his disguise to mess with him… only to then go into a second tier of lies framed around murdering Wyke’s girlfriend (after sleeping with him), mocking his impotency, and threatening to expose him to the police, by giving him only fifteen minutes to find all the incriminating evidence he planted in the house.

Inferior Introverted Sensing—skewed sentimentality toward particular items or beliefs, a loss of details: Unlike Wyke, we don’t get to see Milo at home in his own environment. He isn’t sentimental and doesn’t talk about his past much, but he also doesn’t think about details at all—Wyke must point out to him things about fingerprints, planting evidence, and so on, when they stage the fake burglary.

Enneagram: 9w8

Enneagram 9—desires freedom from others’ influences, by going along with them and being tolerant, until it matters not to: Milo is good-natured and easygoing when he first arrives at the house, and willing to meet his mistress’ husband and discuss her getting a divorce so he can marry her. He answers all Wyke’s questions without being offended, and tolerates his bragging. Then, he starts to send jabs back, and gets into the swing of things, tapping into and reflecting Wyke’s sense of humor, his crazy antics, and his silliness. He goes along with things he has second thoughts about, because why not? What Wyke tells him to do, no matter how stupid it seems to be, he does at first, all without any assumption on his part that Wyke has anything but good intentions. He thinks Wyke pulling a gun on him is a “joke” at first, because he wants to believe Wyke has no criminal intentions, at least not for murder. But after being humiliated and scared to death…

8 wing brings in gut-energy to assert themselves to get what they want, and a fearless ability to defy others: … Milo unleashes a hell on Wyke that far outdoes Wyke’s manipulation of him. He bullies him, tortures him by making him think he seduced and strangled his mistress, mocks his lack of sexual prowess in his old age, speaks ill of his books, and makes him fear for his life—that he will be arrested for murder (twice), that the police are coming, etc. It wasn’t enough for Milo just to play a prank on Wyke, he wants REVENGE for the humiliation he underwent, and for his opponent to suffer. So, he comes back twice as hard as Wyke ever went for him. It doesn’t even bother him a lot to die at the end of the film, provided his murderer is hauled away to prison.
