Louis is one of the best specialized lawyers at the firm, a fact that Harvey and Jessica admit several times; he is excellent at financial documentation and mergers, because he knows a huge amount about whatever interests him. Harvey goes to him several times for detailed help with a case, and Louis will negotiate with him for favors, with the mindset that you don’t get something for nothing. He is ambitious and wants to be partner, and is resentful that Harvey skipped ahead in that department, since he has been there longer and therefore deserves his name on the door. Incompetence, a poor work ethic, and other work-related things bother him whenever he finds them in other people, but he is also obnoxious and disliked because he likes to throw around his weight, shame anyone who isn’t up to snuff or doesn’t know how politics work around the office, etc. He’s such a workaholic, he has no personal relationships to speak of, much less a long-term girlfriend or wife. Louis is detailed in all of his knowledge, whether that involves case law or his love for some random sport, artist, musician, etc. He is an avid collector of memorabilia and feels happiest when he finds others with whom to share those interests. But he is poor at sensing when others are manipulating him; many times, he gets surprised by others’ nefarious intentions, or accuses others of having bad intentions when they have none, which means Louis often misreads the room. His real bane, however, is his inferior Fi. Louis is over-sensitive to rejection, but clueless about how to make other people like and respect him. He tries too hard to impress a few people and alienates others by his creepy behaviors. Louis finds it hard to deal with his feelings and hates it, but breaks down emotionally a few times (such as when he has his cat put to sleep).

Louis tries to pretend to be a 3, and he is ambitious and drive, but he’s also neurotic, paranoid, and insecure. He goes overboard in throwing around his weight and demanding others respect him, rather than assuming he has earned it by being the best at his job. He’s ultra-sensitive to rejection and reactive about it, sometimes acting childishly in front of his peers (being insulted and going off on people, or getting revenge upon them, or going behind their back and selling them out). It’s these self-sabotaging behaviors which has led to him not making partner, because he’s unstable and petty. He often assumes others are out to get him, have stolen his promotion, or they cannot be trusted, then turns around and places his faith in someone who turns out to be unreliable or who can use his anger or hurt feelings to hurt his boss or get to Harvey. His desperation to impress shows his line to 3, in which any slight to his work ethic, intelligence, or self-worth causes him to go too far in trying to prove the opposite. Louis often moves aggressively toward people for attention, and is delighted when they share his common interests. He often over-indulges himself in his expensive hobbies and passions, loading up on luxuries, tickets to the opera and the ballet, and enjoys taking other people along with him, seeing that as even more fun—showing a social 7 inclination to want to “share” enjoyable experiences with others.
