Flynn Rider / Eugene MBTI & Enneagram | Tangled

ENTP 7w6 Characters

Eugene is nothing if not a dreamer; when stealing a royal crown, he’s already musing about the view and thinking about how he’d love to live in a palace one day. After Rapunzel heals his hand with her magical hair, once he gets over being “freaked out,” he comes up with a fantastical question about wondering if his hand now will have super powers, and “imagine the possibilities of that!” He’s rather disappointed with real life and to learn that no, he isn’t now special. Eugene easily senses how to manipulate Rapunzel on an emotional level, and plays with her feelings in an attempt to ditch her (taking her places he knows will freak her out, talking about how devastated her mother will be to find her missing, etc), but he grows into caring about her feelings and being more present to her on an emotional level; her enthusiasm starts to rub off on him and changes his morals from being a selfish thief to a selfless guy who wants what’s best for her. Eugene really just wants to know HOW her hair did that, but out of a desire not to overwhelm her (low Fe) he represses his urge and doesn’t “freak out” about it. We don’t see much of his Si in action, except in his general lack of awareness when it comes to sensory activities (being caught off guard, hit over the head with a frying pan, flying through the air and landing on a horse, freaking out when said horse leaps off the tower, etc).

Eugene is nothing if not a dreamer, who has a fantastical imagination and is always thinking up a way to put himself forward as someone clever, desirable, and talented. He has an over-inflated sense of self-confidence that is fussy and generated at telling the best version of himself, but he’s also a natural schemer who loves to think about things. The more time he spends with Rapunzel, the more he feels a 6ish desire to get to know her, take care of her, and do the right thing by her, when he finally cuts off her hair to separate her from Mother Gothel, rather than to let her save his life. It takes him a long time to reach this point, since he’s only ever been obsessed with serving his own ends (he betrays his friends and double crosses them, then tries to make good with them later, after changing his mind). He even tries to insist that Rapunzel was chasing him and asked him to marry her numerous times, before he finally says yes, in a cheeky attempt to alter the story’s narrative for the audience.
