ESFP 7w8 Characters
Malia spent most of her young life in the form of a coyote, and even there she was reckless—when Scott and Stiles took her sister’s baby doll from the crash site, she broke into the school to steal it and attack them, then broke into her father’s house to steal her own toy, in broad daylight. As a human, Malia is opportunistic and fully present, whether that is making out with Stiles after they break into the basement of the asylum to follow a lead (after one kiss) or trying to attack creatures she has never seen before. She assumes she can just “do” things and that the world will make room for her. This is an asset in that Malia is a good fighter for the team, and picks up on everything (at one point, she says they need to stop thinking like themselves and “think like Stiles… what would he do?”), but she can also be reckless and sometimes get hurt in the process. Malia at first only shows flickers of her emotions. She is oblivious to other people and their feelings, in how she bluntly asserts whatever she thinks about the situation (when she finds out her name is in a dead pool, Malia says she isn’t too worried about it, because “I’m worth less than Scott and Derek, so you’ll both be dead first”). Stiles has to try and explain to her how to soften things and not offend people, but she doesn’t understand what the point of that is. Malia cares about Stiles and ONLY Stiles for awhile, until she gradually comes to experience her emotions toward the rest of the group. When she finds out that Peter is her father, she’s angry at her friends from keeping the truth from her (that her dad is a homicidal jerk) and gives them the silent treatment for a while as punishment. Malia always thinks aggression, directness, and the facts are the answer to everything, but also struggles to care about or even bother trying things that hold no interest for her or that seem confusing; when she can’t figure out math, Malia just marks up her books in red instead, and tells everyone else it’s pointless, that she can’t learn it, and why do they need it. She rarely shows any Ni, except in flickers and flashes of unusual insight or a desire to think of something in a different way than usual.
Enneagram: 7w8
Malia is very assertive and concerned about doing what is best for herself; at first, she doesn’t care about other people or include them in her desire to survive, but then she becomes more emotionally attached to them, drops out of “coyote survivor mode,” and begins to sacrifice herself on their behalf (within reason). Part of her resistance toward turning is the fear that she could hurt Stiles in the way that she killed her mom and sister, and he has to prove to her by taking a chance on her that she can control her animalistic urges, all of which she is very straightforward about. Malia combines her thinking and analysis with direct gut-lead action; she wants to make out with or sleep with Stiles after their first kiss, so they do so; elsewhere, she is pragmatic and blunt in pointing out facts and truths no one else wants to face. And when she’s mad, she avoids her friends or directly confronts them (“what are you hiding from me?”) and then ignores them for this betrayal of trust when she finds out the truth about her dad.
