MBTI Type: ISFJ

Melissa is down to earth and practical, focusing on what needs attended to in the present moment rather than speculating on anything. Scott says that his mom keeps a scrupulous budget in which she ads up all their expenses and then tries to figure out how long they can survive before being evicted. She bases her appraisal of everyone and everything on her own personal experiences, and notices when something is off or wrong with people (“I know my son”) and uses that as a reason to question what is going on, figure out what is wrong, etc. Once aware of werewolves existing, Melissa wants to find out details about them, and then to figure out what she can trust as being true in the world. She is warm, comforting, and good at knowing what to say to make people listen to her, feel good, or be okay with a situation. Melissa is very in tune with other people’s feelings and notices when they are even a little bit “off.” She invites Scott to talk to her, and feels disappointed when he doesn’t. She doesn’t get his Fi way of communicating, and tells him that if he loves a girl, he needs to talk about it—say it, say it again, say it three times, sing it, write it, just find a way to tell her how much you care, all the time, in every way possible. She is quite analytical and detached at times, good at figuring out what to do in a bad situation and on how to keep people alive, work around problems in the hospital, and so on. But Melissa doesn’t really trust wild speculations at first, or suspect that anyone has bad motives until she has reason to think they are not being honest with her.
Enneagram: 2w1
Melissa went into a profession that requires her to take care of people, and she tends to adopt them in general—comforting anyone when she sees them as upset (Chris, Allison, Isaac, her son, even her husband), taking in “strays” (Isaac winds up living with them for a while), and going out of her way to be kind to patients at the hospital. But she also has an assertive side, in that when anyone threatens anyone she cares about, she goes “Mama Bear” on them. After her husband gets drunk and causes her son to fall down the stairs as a toddler, she tells him she wants him and his stuff gone by morning. Then when he turns up years later, she tells him Scott doesn’t want an apology, he wants quality time with his father, and pushes him to tell the truth. When a chaotic fox demon taunts her through Stiles, Melissa has no problem shutting him up by taping his mouth shut. Elsewhere, she threatens werewolves and stands up to people. Her 1 wing is principled and strong in laying down boundaries; she grounds Scott and takes his keys away after he gets into trouble at school. Lays out the truth with her ex-husband about how much she will tolerate. Tells off Isaac and Scott for fighting in the house, and Stiles for sneaking in through Scott’s window rather than using the front door “like a normal person.” She gets on his case for running his Jeep into the back of Peter’s car on her date.
