Criminal mastermind and broker for all kinds of agreements, Reddington can think so fast on his feet that it’s hard for anyone to outsmart him or trip him up. He’s driven for success, to make money, broker deals, exchange information for benefits… such as immunity. He wants logical, tactical reasons for him to go along with things (“I am not your gumball machine; you don’t twist the dial and get things from me”) and provide information. He has a tough, no-nonsense, absolute approach to life oriented toward taking the most logical steps for success and has no problem taking “control” of any situation. He is always twenty steps ahead of every agency he works with; he arrived with dubious motivations and a long-term plan of action. Give him evidence and he can put the pieces together without much external information; he enjoys solving puzzles and providing cryptic pieces of information. He has an intuitive “sense” of people and their potential, as well as their weak spots, which he can easily exploit. Reddington has the upper hand in any relationship he enters into, and is always aware of power dynamics and how to use them to his benefit. He blackmails people or persuades them to pay him for his protection, while taking down rivals and adversaries and ignoring direct orders. People are scared of him, because they know he will go to any lengths to protect the people he cares about. He managed a network of criminals that he is now taking down, by working with Liz at the FBI. Reddington remains totally calm and in control even in intense situations, including one episode where he’s trapped in an impenetrable prison box with a man who is bleeding out (he gives him a blood transfusion while chatting up the men attempting to break in and kill them). His 7 wing is very evident in how he keeps everything light, colorful, and fun. Reddington has anecdotes about everywhere he’s been, about the delicious foods he’s eaten, and all the fun things you can do in various countries around the world – because he has done them all. He often banters with people just to keep things interesting and takes almost nothing seriously.
