Eric is as much of a hands-on guy as Ariel is a mermaid; he tells people not to get lost or stuck in their head, but to “use their eyes” (you are not trying to stab a mermaid, but a dolphin, you idiots!). He swings around on the mast of his ship, he rushes to rescue his dog and get him off safe, he puts himself in harm’s way, he rows a boat out to get Ariel and throws a harpoon at the Witch, even though he can’t breathe underwater, he dances with her at an outside event and has fun with her in a festival, he falls in love fast and easily. Like Ariel, he too has a firm set of beliefs he wants to impose on the world and live by, which discounts the “traditional” thinking of his mother. Eric doesn’t want to be left behind or allow his culture to become outdated, so he pushes for change, relevancy, and them to get involved in the outside world. He says he will be a “different kind” of leader for his kingdom, and does not believe any of the bad things said about the mer-people. Eric bluntly shuts down things he doesn’t want to hear. He also has firm dreams for his future, but is not good at reading between the lines (he discounts Ariel as his savior because she cannot speak, and also laughs at the idea that mermaids exist; he is too logical, and “uses his eyes” too much to believe in any such nonsense… until he sees them WITH his own eyes).
Enneagram: 7w6
Eric is a wild adventurer who isn’t content to stay on land, but has to be out exploring the seas, with tons of ideas for the future of his kingdom to ensure they don’t get “left behind” by civilization. He is enthusiastic, good-natured, curious, and excited by new possibilities… but is also pining for a girl who rescued him from a storm and whom he believes is “the one,” rather than focusing on the girl right in front of him (which is foolish according to his advisor, but Eric is a romantic dreamer at heart, and this is something 7s do – they build up a fantasy in their mind and chase it, sometimes neglecting what’s in front of them in the process). Like Ariel, he doesn’t want to be stuck with responsibility, but to expand his horizons. He also shows 6 in his tendency to listen to his mother and try to adapt a little to what she wants (but without giving up on his dreams), and his caution but overall he is assertive, self-confident, and believes in his dreams.
