Sophie is an opportunist of the highest order, who reads things on a surface value evaluation at first. She thinks her sister is insane for wanting to sacrifice her daughter in a witch blood ritual to strengthen their magic, and doesn’t change her mind about this until she “sees it with her own eyes” (Se users need a direct line of vision or to experience things to believe them, in a mystical sense). Then she figures that to defeat Marcel, she needs leverage against the Originals, so she kidnaps Haley and threatens to kill her child, linking herself by blood magic to them both, so that no one can kill her. She twists, turns, and leaps on chances to take out Marcel, diminish Klaus’ authority, and take care of/threaten Haley as the situation requires. Her blind spot is her low intuition – she fixates on the singular outcome she wants (break Marcel’s hold over them and kill Davina so her niece can live again), but is often taken unaware by others’ betrayals, and her lack of ability to believe in what she could not “see” is what caused many of her problems in the first place. Part of the reason others dislike her is because of her logical ruthlessness; she doesn’t mind killing herself in the cause for the greater good, and although it bothers her to sacrifice one of her friends, she lets her die for the “cause” (to conceal her own use of magic at the same time). Sophie has no real inner values to speak of, but does exhibit others-based values (Fe) in her desire to protect the witches and her “community.” She is also open and honest with her feelings, even if she doesn’t fully understand their significance; and she trusts that others also have similar attachments/relationships which will give her leverage over them.

Sophie admits she ran away from home to live life large as a teenager—she got drunk, she slept around, and she partied, and only came home because she wanted to be a chef and to see her sister. She is highly assertive, going toe to toe with some of the most powerful, dangerous vampires in New Orleans by leveraging information against them and using blackmail (if Klaus doesn’t get her what she wants, she’ll kill his unborn child; if Elijah doesn’t help her, she will use Hayley against him). Sophie is strong and resilient, a natural leader, but she only takes this mantle upon herself because of a personal interest in it—her niece and sister were collateral damage and she wants revenge. She largely ignores and/or reframes the nasty things she has to do to get this goal accomplished.
