Clarisse Renaldi MBTI & Enneagram | The Princess Diaries

ISFJ 1w9 Characters

Clarisse is more withdrawn and self-contained than her granddaughter. She is also more traditional; she upholds the traditions of her country without questioning them, accepts an arranged marriage and thinks back fondly on their years together. She is practical and likes to know all the details of a situation before making a decision. She also strives to impart the wisdom she has learned over the years to Mia. Clarisse is very diplomatic, and mostly concerned with what is appropriate and responsible toward the people of Genovia. It bothers her enormously that Mia makes a fool of herself in public. She is easily able to speak to anyone, make them like her, and get out of trouble by flattering them, as seen in the incident where Mia runs into a tram with her car. She makes up a fake “Order of the Rose” on the spot, and knights two people, knowing they will look fondly upon her and give Mia a pass. She is gracious and easily able to speak to people and get them to do what she wants through flattery (irritated by Mia’s Principle, she calls her a “fine public educator” and asks her to go over the new security detail, an important job!). Clarisse wants things done according to her own standard, and for them to work properly; when she arrives in California, she’s all business and determined to remake her granddaughter into a “princess,” and organize the annual ball. She spends a lot of time attending her queen duties, negotiating with foreign dictators, and issuing orders to her underlings, but she does warm up to Mia and show her more playful and spirited side, in which she also opens up and talks about her own feelings and experiences. Clarisse is so reluctant to put aside her old life that she nearly misses out on forming a new one with the man she loves; Mia encourages her to think about the future in a new way. She senses when things are amiss with people or they can’t be trusted (inferior Ne).

Enneagram: 1w9

Clarisse prides herself on being poised and calm in most situations. She does not like to lose her temper, but also has an undertone of annoyance at incompetence. She is dutiful and expects both a lot from her granddaughter and herself. Clarisse likes to see things perfected, from the garden arrangements to Mia’s hairstyle. She also has a personable, warm theatrical side to her, which is how she manages to turn on the charm and politeness and get things done – appealing to Mia’s teachers and getting Mia out of being hauled downtown for crashing into a bus. She becomes more emotional under stress (4 disintegration point) and more playful and fun when relaxed (moving to 7).
