Conrad Hawkins MBTI & Enneagram | The Resident

ESTP 7w8 Characters

Conrad got most of his medical training on-site, innovating in the field of battle during a war, and he still enjoys being out on the street, doing ambulance duty, and doing search and rescue. His private life is full of physical activities—rock climbing, running marathons, skydiving. He is quick to leap into action and nothing gets past him; he notices signs and symptoms on his patients that other doctors miss (in one episode, he hears something in an overturned bus, and not only finds another person pinned beneath a seat in the smoke, but rescues a cat in a carrier too). He is extremely logical and analytical, able to figure things out on the fly, come up with creative solutions when they are short on something in the hospital, etc. He tries one solution and then another, and has an uncanny knack for figuring out what’s wrong with patients and being an excellent diagnostic person. But he sometimes gets caught up in a feedback loop of wondering why something is happening, and being unable to process it until it makes sense to him, like after he loses someone he loves, he keeps returning to the scene where it happened and trying to come up with a reason for why they would swerve the car. This frustrates those around him, who wish he would move on, and stop dwelling in what happened, but until Conrad exhausts all his ideas, he can’t give up on “finding the truth.” He shows little Ni, except that he is single minded and good at figuring out what’s wrong with people based on scattered evidence.

Enneagram: 7w8

Conrad is an optimistic, enthusiastic young doctor who used to be not so great with hanging around for the hard stuff, which Nic reminds him of when they start dating again. He has done a lot of inner work to get to a place where he can “stay” instead of “run,” which is what convinces her to give him another chance. He’s an idealist and a romantic, who wants a proposal to be perfect. When someone he loves about is brain dead, Conrad denies the reality of the situation to hold onto hope. He insists this person is alive, despite all physical evidence, and then only takes comfort in that they were an organ donor, and so they will “live on” in another form by changing people’s lives for the better. He is forever smiling, making jokes, and helping feel good even when they wind up in the E.R., but also shows a lot of 8 wing aggression. He is harsh with Devon on his first day, so much so that Devon thinks he’s an “ass.” Conrad sometimes loses control over his temper and punches people, attacks them, or confronts them. He doesn’t shy away from standing up to narcissistic doctors or calling their bluff, and tells one of them if they mess with someone he loves, “you will answer to me.” His tendency to get into fights is what caused Nic to stop seeing him in the first place, after he assaulted someone for being rude to her in a restaurant.
