Kit specializes in bone medicine, and takes time to teach her residents her methods. She warns a coworker that she can’t learn two complicated brain surgery fields at once, and that it could cause her to make costly mistakes that hurt people. She is methodical, careful, and furious when she finds a new kind of implement on her operating table, with which she has no experience. She argues to use the implants she is more familiar with, since they have a proven track record, and says you can’t blindside her like that. It’s hard for her to adapt to change at first, until she gets the hang of it, and starts looking for more ways to change up medicine and bring good to Chastain. Kit is family-oriented, and has a built-in family unit around her; she is on good terms with all of her grandchildren and her ex-husbands, and even dates one of them a second time years after their divorce. She urges her future husband to reconnect with his loved ones, but warns him about the emotional consequences involved and how it might stir up trouble for those around him. She admits to her own flaws easily, and says she was a workaholic who spent more time on the job than with her husband, felt guilty about it, and gave him a “reason to divorce me” by cheating on him (something she now regrets). When Kit encounters Cain, she dislikes his unorthodox methods and refuses to pretend otherwise or to get along with him, but she heeds the advice not to cause him trouble because it could result in her own termination from Chastain. In this, she is more logical than emotionally driven. Kit looks for ways to keep them financially solvable when she becomes the CEO, but also recognizes the need to do right by others and provide medical care for them even if they can’t pay the fees. She makes the hospital private so they can choose to treat anyone regardless of their insurance, and then finds ways to supplement their income with business ventures and investors. Kit cares about people deeply and tries to form connections to them, but is also somewhat private about her true inner wounds. She selectively focuses her love and attention on the people she cares most about, and tries to look after them emotionally. She goes out of her way to reassure her patients, teach her resident, and to support Dr. Bell. When he comes up with an MS diagnosis, rather than let him quit, run away, and brood, she talks about how they are going to handle this as a family. She looks down on Cain for his unorthodox practices and looks down on doing amoral surgeries (“billing that much means he is performing unnecessary procedures!”). Kit is excited about the future, but also cautious since she does not want to make mistakes or put people’s lives at risk.

When Bell brings her to Dr. Cain’s loft and tells her to play nice, once Kit hears about how much he bills annually, she realizes he will want her to perform unnecessary surgeries and absolutely refuses to do it. She leaves the party early, because she won’t do anything immoral or wrong according to her inner standard. Often, she gets into trouble with other doctors for lecturing them about their decisions, or telling them to put their patient first, because she is principled and believes others should care as much as she does about doing what is right. She sees her own behavior as inappropriate in one of her marriages (cheating on her ex was bad; getting back into a relationship with him, however, may be right). Kit makes a good CEO because she’s ethical and refuses to have anything to do with shady companies, to hire people with bad track records, and promotes people based on their track record and potential rather than playing into politics. She shows a lot of nurturing with her 2 wing. She is forever uplifting, encouraging, and finding ways to connect to others. Kit needs to be needed, and feels happiest when she can bring something to the table in her relationships. She cares a good deal for her patients and will go above and beyond to meet their needs.
