Duncan Kane MBTI & Enneagram | Veronica Mars

MBTI Type: ISFJ

Duncan holds the past in high esteem and often mentions it, referencing how things ‘used to be,’ and lamenting that they have changed. He hangs out with the same friends he used to, sits at the same table, and still harbors feelings for Veronica, even though he has broken up with her. Where she has theories about everything, Duncan is more inward and focused on his own experiences. He’s quiet, withdrawn, private. No one ever knows what he’s thinking. And he goes along with what others want much of the time, causing him to over-adapt to situations. Duncan is nice enough and considerate of everyone (not just those in his social class/zip code), that he gets elected school president without doing much campaigning, because people trust him to keep his word and do right by them. Unfortunately, being so inward and quiet means he’s not the most interesting guy in the world. What theories Duncan has about his sister’s death, he keeps to himself.

Enneagram: 9w1

Duncan is a very kind, sweet, mild-mannered guy who stands up for others very calmly. One time, Dick tries to kick a nerd away from their table by being rude, and Duncan just takes his tray, puts it back down, and says, “Nah, you can stay here. It’s cool.” He does what he wants quietly—his mom wants him on anti-depressants and other medicine for his problems, and instead, Duncan pretends to take the pills and drops them down the sink. When his doctor warns him about the side effects of going off medication abruptly, Duncan just nods and says “yeah” to the list of serious complications (hallucinations, dizzy spells, etc). When others pressure him to talk about his sister, he won’t; at one point, he leaves Neptune to get away from everyone else’s control, not telling anyone where he is going and ditching his car at the Mexican border with a six-pack of beer and a “free” sign in the front seat to get Keith Mars off his trail. He was slow to “do” everything; where his sister was sleeping with every man she could find, Duncan admitted to Veronica that he was a virgin. He is also concerned with doing the ‘right thing’ – when he gets a girl pregnant, he insists on taking the baby and raising it, even though no one else supports this decision. (Once again, he up and disappears, so he can live his life on his own terms with no one influencing him in another direction, the ultimate 9w1 passive-aggressive avoidance of conflict.) He also dumped Veronica and ghosted her, without bothering to talk about his reasons. If Duncan does lose his temper, he becomes violent/aggressive (beating his car with a shovel and breaking the window in a rage because he saw Logan with Veronica).
