Mac is a successful computer whiz and hacker, to whom Veronica goes for help in her many schemes. Give her an hour and she can do whatever you want—take apart code, build a website, strip a voice so you can recognize it in its unaltered form, or come up with a program. She’s also a shrewd businesswoman who is opportunistic. Mac sees a quiz about how ‘slutty you are’ and knows it would make a mint at Neptune high, so she creates a website that tabulates and keeps a record of everyone’s scores, then sells them to the students for $10 a pop. She admits that was one of her more “profitable” ideas, since some of them were dropping hundreds for multiple scores. In return, she purchases a flashy car and proudly drives it around school, with no one any the wiser about who is behind it. Mac doesn’t really theorize with Veronica about who did it or why most of the time; but she has an instinct that she doesn’t really ‘belong’ with her family. It doesn’t surprise her to find out she was switched at birth, because she ‘always knew’ she belonged ‘somewhere else.’ Mac almost tells the other girl about them being switched, but Veronica stops her. She then keeps it a secret and not talk to her parents about it, being respectful of their feelings and also her own. She is pretty emotionally restrained, but feels an intense connection to her birth mother.

Mac is a pretty chill girl who goes along with most of Veronica’s plans, agreeing to do stuff for her on the side (“Sure, I can do that… but can I take it with me, I’m supposed to be in class!”) but also knowing when and where to assert her authority. (“When you find Duncan, what do I get? Ten percent of the reward?”) She flies under the radar at school and draws very little attention to herself, but also can get in people’s faces if they tick her off and delights in helping Veronica put them in their place. (If someone took a video of her like that one, she’d make sure they regretted it!) She has no qualms about threatening a boy at school with a libelous website that would falsely accuse him of being gay before he goes into the Naval Academy. She also pays no real attention to others who are rude, ignoring them and doing her own thing (such as when she leaves her purse at her biological mom’s house and goes back to get it, then runs into someone who doesn’t want her there, and doesn’t let it phase her).
