Dr. Vernon Mullins MBTI & Enneagram | Virgin River

MBTI Type: ISFJ

Doc is an exceptionally good doctor, who has a longstanding practice he built from the ground up, and he feels very proud about that. He is not a fan of change and doesn’t want Mel to help him at first, until she proves that she has good knowledge that can help his patients. Local events and personal traditions, such as winning the egg race every year, are important to him in a way that others cannot understand. He seems to be chauvinistic at first, in often demanding Mel get his coffee and not giving her responsibilities around the place, but in reality he’s just set in his ways. Doc is really good with his patients and also forthcoming with his feelings. He tries repeatedly to make up with his wife, to apologize for his actions, and to treat everyone with compassion. Her bluntness often offends others, but he finds it endearing and is happiest when they are able to live an honest lifestyle of people in town knowing that they are together again. When confronted with a problem he has never met before, Doc tries to figure out what happened to cause it (how did this girl get sick, are her parents okay, what could have caused all of them to have breathing problems, and what can I do about it). He resists change at first, but then eases into it and has more of an open mind. (He hates and resists any kind of technology or improvements in his practice, for example, and refuses to use a computer.)

Enneagram: 9w1

Doc is a warm and welcoming man, but also very stubborn about not needing help. He has been delivering medical supplies to an illegal marijuana farm for several years, not because he cares about or respects the man who owns the place, but because he knows the wives and children of those people need help. He has chosen not to report them or the location of the camp to the state troopers, despite knowing they are criminals. When problems arise, Doc is often the one to smooth things over or insist that everyone calm down and get along. He objects at times to his wife’s behavior and tells her to keep out of others’ business, but also comforts her when her life falls apart. Even though he doesn’t like to deceive others, he goes along with her plan to pretend they aren’t married and haven’t reconciled by dating a woman in town at her say-so, and developing feelings for her. Doc at first resists Mal being in his life, but then sees her potential and accepts her. He is gently preachy at times, telling Hope that at last ‘maybe’ she will listen and let her pain soak into her and turn her into less of an interfering gossip.
