Lizzie’s mentality is best summed up when her boyfriend tells her he is terminally ill, and she says she wants to be in a relationship with him anyway, since she “lives in the moment!” It’s true, Lizzie focuses on whatever or whomever is right in front of her, and throws herself after life and its adventures with everything she has got. She wound up in Virgin River because she got arrested for stealing something she could afford—because she wanted to steal it. And she’s very successful at whatever she puts her mind to, whether that is working for Hope at the mayor’s office or being her caregiver. Lizzie is good at seeing what needs done now and thinking up a solution, such as when she proposes that they make lunches for the firefighters rather than just send money—let’s do something tangible that makes a real difference now. She is emotionally-driven in her decisions, but also firm in what she wants for herself. She doesn’t hesitate to get involved with a guy she knows is going to die sooner rather than later, because it feels right to her, and it would be wrong to miss out on this opportunity. Her Te shows in how she likes to organize things, she comes up with plans for Hope, she executes all the details about making lunches, getting them there, and then explains her reasons clearly for her decision. She’s so good at tackling things, they often put her in charge of community events. But she spends little time thinking about her future, and wants to keep her options open rather than close them.

Lizzie comes to town fresh off of getting into trouble and rebelling against her mother’s rules, and even as she matures, she remains fixed in her belief that she doesn’t want a fully stable lifestyle. Her mom pressures her to go to college, but Lizzie decides not to, since that would impede her freedom and take her away from Virgin River. She quickly hooked up with a boy in town and didn’t want to discuss sad or serious things with him; she becomes annoyed by his 6w7 constant need for permission for everything, which doesn’t match her own take-charge and “take what I want” approach to life. But she does have a softer side and a desire to be faithful to the people she loves, takes her responsibilities with Hope seriously, and sometimes wonders if she has made the right decision about her future.
