Preacher is a down to earth guy who knows how the world works; when the woman he loves tells him that she killed her ex-husband in an accident, after he beat her up, she begs him to take her son. He points out that the law won’t allow it, and that he’ll have no control over what happens to Christopher, so she needs to take him and run—he will cover up the accident. He is quite content to live and work in the same place and is a good cook. Preacher loves to experiment and come up with new dishes, but also carries over a lot of his experiences from being a Marie. He cares a lot about his friends from Iraq and keeps up with their lives. Preacher is reliable and takes care of others easily. He’s also warm, friendly, and likable, easily telling people about his feelings and trying to put them at ease. When others come to him with their troubles, Preacher listens to them, counsels them, and urges them to be considerate of one another’s needs. He is more emotionally intelligent and sensitive than Jack, but also more of a problem solver. He does not show a huge amount of Ne other than in his experimentation and desire for life experiences.

Preacher likes to take care of others through food and attending to their needs; he is responsible and driven, but also likely to drop everything and rush to attend to someone else’s needs, even if that means covering up an accidental death to keep the woman he loves from going to prison. From the moment Mel comes into town, she finds him warm and welcoming, but he can also be assertive and confrontational, getting in the face of people who are irresponsible, inconsiderate, or have a poor work ethic, and threatening to smack a guy in the face for flaunting his ill-gotten gains. He says that sometimes you have to bend the rules and work outside the law, when the law is a problem. He also is somewhat critical of others and wants them to live up to their potential; he runs a tight ship at the bar, is always experimenting with his food, and doesn’t like it when others won’t pull their weight or show up to work on time.
