Robbie Ferrier MBTI & Enneagram | War of the Worlds

ISFP 9w8 Characters

Robbie thinks primarily with his feelings; he’s resentful of his father’s absence in their life and disinterested in what he thinks. He has no desire to obey him, until push comes to shove, and even then he is constantly rebelling to act on his feelings (he wants to join the army and/or fight with the resistance against the aliens and sees running and hiding as cowardice). Robbie slaps a moral judgment on his dad, saying that he wants to dump them off on their mother in Boston so then he only has himself to care about “as usual.” Eventually, Robbie leaves them in the middle of a war zone to stand and fight. He is quick to react, impulsive, and risk-taking, stealing his dad’s car and driving it without a license, wanting to bum a ride on a tank, and even charging up a hill that’s on fire toward the aliens to see what they are dealing with. Robbie wants “straight answers” from his dad, and to “know everything that you know,” so he can figure out how to interact with what’s happening around him in real time. Under stress, he becomes more authoritarian than emotional, but can’t escape his own need and desire to be true to his feelings.

When Robbie’s mom says he needs to write a paper for school this weekend and tells his dad to make sure he does it before he comes home, Robbie shrugs and says it’s all up in his head, and he just needs to write it down. She scoffs, not believing him and implying that he tends to wait until the last minute to do things. Robbie is rather passive-aggressive; he doesn’t even bother to speak to his dad on the way into the apartment, until he finds the door locked, as punishment for his absentee father act. He takes the car out without permission, and then shrugs off his dad’s annoyance. When all hell breaks loose, he helps his sister to calm down, and remains calm himself even while demanding to know what his dad knows. But he’s also extremely angry about what has happened, and wants to go off half cocked and join the army—never thinking about his sister or the dangers involved in the process. He just wants to kick some alien butt, because of all the death and destruction they have waged on humankind; and eventually, he goes off to do just that, insisting that his dad let him go and respect his choices.
