Artie likes things to make sense, but is curious enough about the artifacts to want to understand how they work. He doesn’t really care if he uses them or not, he just likes the chance to learn about them. He enjoys his job at the Warehouse because it brings him into contact with new information, while allowing him to live a relatively laid-back life. Artie sometimes doesn’t understand the behavior of his coworkers, because he prefers to deal in facts and logic than sentiment and emotion. He likes to have contingency plans, just in case. He is cautious when approaching new artifacts, but is also delighted by them. He enjoys the constant surprises and discoveries of working at the Warehouse. Artie foresees what might happen and allows it to influence his decisions in the present; he sends Claudia out on her first mission with Jix, but tags along unseen just in case they need help. His ability to remember what he’s read or artifacts he’s filed away comes in handy when dealing with “unknown” artifacts. Artie keeps an extensive collection of files to help him remember. He indulges the others’ whims to a certain extent, but then brings them back to earth with a dose of rationality (no, zombies don’t exist). He’s a tad bit traditional in his respect for how the Warehouses have always been run. People aren’t his strong point; Artie struggles to relate to them, but is kind toward them. He is more concerned for others than himself in perilous situations, and is working toward the greater good for humanity in protecting them from dangerous artifacts.

Artie is a bit of a cranky curmudgeon, who doesn’t like to share excess information with his agents until he’s sure of the facts, and who warns them not to mess with the artifacts, but neglects to give them any details about “why” that causes them (especially Claudia) to ignore his advice and experiment. Concern of problems arising keeps him from too much risk-taking, and he very much dislikes change in any form until Claudia can prove to him that her “high tech” way is “better.” At one point, he says he hates dealing with paper, but nobody can hack it. Artie likes to carefully think before he acts, and to make plans and contingencies that will allow for the best possible outcomes. He doesn’t like to go after artifacts until he has some idea of what he’s looking for, and what the effects might be. After he hires Claudia, he tells her to come up with a list of all the ways she hacked into the Warehouse and implement safeguards against them, so no one else can do the same thing. He is more serious than she is, focused on his work and the importance of keeping artifacts away from humanity, but also has a playful side that is willing to go out into the field and take action. Though somewhat crabby, Artie is also willing to work with people rather than against them, to meet them in the middle, and to make compromises. He splits his time between data-gathering about all kinds of things and sharing this information with everyone around him. Artie prefers to be in the Warehouse gathering intel to being out in the field, and also has trouble relating to people on an emotional level.
