George Cooper MBTI & Enneagram | Young Sheldon

ISFP 9w8 Characters

George is very emotional and easily offended; it bothers him that Meemaw constantly mocks him, belittles him, talks about how fat he is, and thinks he’s worthless because he’s not the most ambitious guy in the world, but he mostly keeps these opinions to himself. When she gives him the wrong recipe for his brisket, he naively follows all of her instructions only to get upset that she lied to him. He’s so private, it takes a lot for him to open up to other people. One time, he tells Sheldon that he did the right thing at work and turned in someone for cheating, and got fired—and now that’s why he’s an assistant coach, for which Sheldon has sympathy for him and they make a rare emotional connection. George is a very physical man, rather than an abstract one; he mostly wants to watch football, chill in the backyard, and perfect his BBQ skills. He would find it easier to connect to Sheldon if his son had more sports-related ambition in him, but he does find tangible ways to engage with the child by driving him places (such as to a Planetarium, and to a hotel where they can watch the shuttle launch). He does not show much Ni or Te, except when he gets upset—and then he yells at people, tells them off, or just leaves the room.

George doesn’t want to be around drama, which is unfortunate because his wife always brings it to him with her escalating emotions, so he chooses to hide out in the chicken coop with the neighbor and drink together and they can both avoid their wives! (But they come up with a cover story about how they almost came to blows, in case their wives ask.) He is way more mellow than Mary, and doesn’t want to get involved in anything; she has to coax him to spend time with his kids in any kind of meaningful way, because he’s not sure how to relate to them or what he should ‘do’ with them. But he’s also a warm, grounded presence amid the chaos that unfolds around him all the time. He also wants to downplay and ignore his heart attack and pretend it never happened.
